Algunos trabajos recientes muestran una significativa desigualdad en el aprendizaje a los 15 años de aquellos jóvenes autodeclarados como hablantes de portuñol. Más allá de este hallazgo empírico sobre una correlación, entendemos que es necesario avanzar en una explicación teóricamente sustentada sobre cuál es el mecanismo por el que se verifica esta transformación de una diferencia lingüística en una desigualdad social en el contexto escolar. Este trabajo propone un modelo teórico para conectar la particularidad lingüística de la región noreste del Uruguay con la desigualdad de aprendizajes a lo largo de los niveles básico y medio. Con este fin, ensayamos una explicación mecanísmica que extiende la teoría estructuralista de Basil Bernstein sobre la organización de las escuelas, del curriculum y de las prácticas de aula fundada en los conceptos de clasificación y de enmarcamiento.

Los orígenes sociales son medidos a través de la teoría de las clases de Erikson Goldthorpe y Portocarero. La hipótesis principal es que la estructura de clases tiene efectos diferenciales condicionados por la matriz productiva regional al punto de generar modificaciones en este nivel de la reproducción social.
