2,3-Dichloronaphthalene and 2,3-dibromonaphthalene were synthesized, their crystal structures determined, and vibronic spectra of single terrylene molecules in the crystals indicated lowering of the guest symmetry.
Results of optical studies of a new single-molecule system, terrylene molecules in a 2,3-dichloronaphthalene crystal, are presented for the rst time. Analysis of the second-order uorescence intensity correlation function shows that the external heavy-atom eect (due to the chlorine atoms) contributes to the increase of the intersystem crossing rate constant for the S1 → T1 transition, by one order of magnitude, whereas the rate constant for the T1 → S0 transition is only weakly inuenced.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
