Mediatization has become a key concept for understanding the relations between media and other cultural and social fields. Contributing to the discussions related to the concept of mediatization, this article discusses how practices of radio and music(al life) influence each other. We follow Deacon’s and Stanyer’s advice to supplement the concept of mediatization with ‘a series of additional concepts at lower levels of abstraction’ and suggest, in this respect, the notion of heterogeneous milieus of music–radio. Hereby, we turn away from the all-encompassing perspectives related to the concept of mediatization where media as such seem to be ascribed agency. Instead, we consider historical accounts of music–radio in order to address the complex non-linearity of concrete processes of mediatization as they take place in the multiple meetings between a decentred notion of radio and musical life.
Med udviklingen af digitale musiktjenester er fulgt en ekspansiv udvikling af genrekategorier og en samtidig forskydning af disse i retning af begreber om stemning og aktivitet. Dette udfordrer den måde, hvorpå musikalske genrer traditionelt har vaeret forbundet med scener og musikkulturelle miljøer. Denne artikel undersøger denne udvikling, og, i videre forstand, hvad genrekategorier betyder for digital musikformidling i regi af streamingtjenester. Som afsaet introduceres Andreas Reckwitz' ide om singulariteternes samfund og den antagelse, at genrers betydning for streamingtjenester beror på en (skalerbar og reversibel) abstraktionsproces, som medierer det henholdsvis almenes og saeregnes sociale logikker. Specifikt forenes dermed en gennemrationaliseret kategorisering af brugere, musik og musikliv og leveringen af skraeddersyede individuelle og kontekstbestemte musikoplevelser i en angiveligt uendelig fleksibel strøm. Denne service, som artiklen identificerer som affektiv, forudsaetter abstrakte kategoriers (principielt uendelige) potentiale for konkret udfyldning. Undersøgelsen foretages gennem en analyse af Spotifys musikformidling, naermere bestemt den MIR-baserede genreanalytik, som befordrer tjenestens musikkuratering, og dennes formidling i brugergraenseflader og markedsføring.
