In the extraction of Pu(IV) nitrate from uranium containing aqueous solutions by means of long chain tertiary amines, the partition coefficient of Pu(IV) is influenced by the concentration of nitric acid, uranyl nitrate and by the concentration of the amine in the diluent. At high uranium concentration values extraction of Pu(IV) ceases to be dependent upon the nitric acid molarity. The existence of a competitive effect between U and Pu is shown. The effect of the chemical composition of the aminediluent system on the uranium-plutonium separation factor is briefly discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
