The electric quadrupole excitation of unstable nuclei with the neutron skin is studied in terms of a Hartree-Fock RPA calculation, taking 0 as an example. It is found that there are giant excitation peaks, referred to as giant neutron modes, below the isoscalar giant resonance and these peaks consist of neutron excitations only. Their transition densities are shown to be extended radially in comparison to the isoscalar giant resonance. A strong correlation between H(E2) sum of the giant neutron modes and the number of neutrons in the neutron skin is found.PACS number(s): 24.30. Cz, 21.60.Jz, 25.60.+v, 27.30.+t
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
