This chapter outlines the main sections of a business plan and discusses the contents of each, in the context of a veterinary practice. Most business plans will contain the following sections: (1) executive summary; (2) description of the business and its purpose; (3) management and staffing; (4) the product(s) and/or service(s) the business offers; (5) premises and equipment (or infrastructure); (6) marketing plan; (7) business organization; (8) financial projections; and (9) appendices.
This chapter discusses five key elements of the practice of relationship building in veterinary practice: (1) learning about each other; (2) meeting each other's needs; (3) identifying each other's changing perspectives and preferences and being ready to adapt; (4) putting things right as quickly as possible when things go wrong; and (5) ending the relationship graciously if things cannot be put right.
Some documents that can be adapted for use in veterinary practice management are presented, namely: the Appraisal Meeting Checklist, Appraisal Process Checklist, Job Description Template, Job Vacancy Shortlisting Record and Guidance Notes, Person Specification Template, Staff Induction Timetable, and Template for Developing New Protocols and Procedures.
