In the photolysis of 1,3-difluoroacetone, CFH2 radicals recombine to form C2F2H4 and disproportionate to give vinyl fluoride and hydrogen fluoride. The ratio of the rates of these two reactions is a function of both the pressure and the temperature. The activation energy for H abstraction by CFH2 radicals from the ketone is 8.0 kcal. mole-1.
Plasma chemistry / Catalysis j Ammonia synthesisIn an alternating current glow discharge with internal aluminum electrodes the reaction of nitrogen and hydrogen at~10 Torr was characterized by ammonia formation and a bright emission which was analyzed for excited states of N2, N2, H, NH and NH2. A significant amount of ammonia was formed only when the plasma gas was passed through a cold trap at temperatures below 110 K. When an iron catalyst in the form of a mesh was placed in the plasma zone more ammonia was formed in the cold trap than when the plasma gas was passed over the catalyst placed downstream from the plasma. Increasing the catalyst temperature increased ammonia formation suggesting that more ammonia precursors such as NH and NH2 were formed on the catalyst surface.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
