La cinétique de l'oxydation du formaldéhyde (F) a été étudiée entre 370 et 550°C à des pressions comprises entre 80 et 20 mm Hg, au moyen d'une méthode thermique permettant la mesure directe de la vitesse instantanée de réaction. Par ce procédé il a été possible d'établir expérimentalement les points suivants: La réaction présente une période d'induction due à la formation d'un intermédiaire actif (X) de vie moyenne relativement longue. A l'état stationnaire, la vitesse de réaction est proportionnelle au carré de la concentration de formaldéhyde et indépendante de la concentration d'oxygène. Le composé intermédiaire se détruit suivant un processus bimoléculaire. Il n'y a pas de chaînes droites d'oxydation Le schéma suivant rend compte de (1), (2), (3) et (4) Un mécanisme, inspiré de celui de Snowden et Style (2) (*), où le composé × est identifié avec l'acide performique et où toutes les réactions ont lieu à la paroi, est proposé. L'évidence de ce mécanisme est supportée par de nombreux arguments autres que les points (1), (2), (3) et (4) invoqués plus haut

Résumé. ‐ Dans ce travail, nous montrons que le mécanisme d'inflammation aux basses pressions des mélanges de méthane et d'oxygène, dont la teneur en oxygène est supérieure à 63%, est identique à celui des mélanges oxydriques. Nous arrivons à cette conclusion en nous basant sur les faits suivants: 1°‐Au moment où la flamme apparaît dans un mélange de composition initiale CH4+2O2, il n'y a pratiquement plus de méthane présent. Celui‐ci a été consommé durant la période d'induction et l'explosion se déclenche dans un milieu dont la composition est approximativement la suivante: CH4: 3,7%; CO: 14,8%; H2: 2,9%; O2: 17,2%; CO2: 10%; H2O: 50%. 2°‐Les mélanges contenant moins de 63% d'oxygène ne présentent plus qu'une seule limite d'inflammation. 3°‐L'azote exerce la même influence sur la seconde limite d'inflammation du méthane que sur celle de l'hydrogène. 4°‐En tenant compte de la composition réalisée au moment de l'inflammation et en appliquant la formule empirique donnant l'action des gaz inertes sur la limite P2 des mélanges oxhydriques, on peut calculer la limite P2 des mélanges méthane+oxygène et l'on trouve ainsi des valeurs en bon accord avec l'expérience. 5°‐Durant la période d'induction, le méthane joue un double rôle, celui de producteur de CO et d'H2, déjà signalé, et celui d'inhibiteur. Ce n'est qu'au moment ou celui‐ci est pratiquement transformé que la flamme peut s'établir. 6°‐A partir des mécanismes actuellement admis pour la combustion du méthane, de l'hydrogène et de l'oxyde de carbone et de la réaction CH4+OCH2+H2O, qui selon nous tient compte de l'effet inhibiteur du méthane, nous avons pu établir une condition limite d'éxplosion (P2) en bon accord avec l'expérience. II est montré ensuite que les théories selon lesquelles l'explosion serait due au d'éveloppement d'un processus en chaînes à ramifications dégénérées sont insoutenables dans le domaine d'inflammation aux basses pressions. Par contre, au‐dessus de la limite supérieure P3, il n'y a aucune objection fondamentale contre ces théories.

VANPEE (P5turagcs) RESUME. -On dkcrit une mkthode calorimktrique qui permet de mesurer la vitesse instantanee des dactions gazeuses. Celle-ci a ktk testhe sur 17 &actions diffkrentes parmi lesquelles figurent 15 combustions, la synthhse de l'acide chlorhydrique et la recombinaison des atomes de chlorure (effet Budde).La mkthode est particulihement avantageuse pour l'ktude des corps instables dont la vie moyenne est comprise entre la seconde et quelques minutes.
