RESUMO -A necessidade de se ampliar o entendimento de conceitos e teorias dos discentes na área de Projeto de Reatores Químicos, levou ao desenvolvimento de um simulador para reatores não-isotérmicos utilizando softwares livres e gratuitos. A simulação é feita de modo que o usuário possa variar parâmetros de processo, bem como interpretar e comparar os resultados a partir de conhecimento obtido durante a graduação em Engenharia Química. Para o estudo de caso analisado, utilizou-se um exemplo presente na literatura concernente e, a partir dos dados do mesmo, parâmetros de processo, como temperatura e vazão molar da entrada do reator, foram variados visando conhecer as influências de tais parâmetros na conversão de equilíbrio e no volume do vaso reacional. Para a análise foram utilizados Gráficos de Levenspiel de modo a avaliar o comportamento das curvas obtidas e então propor explicações para tal fenômeno. Após simulação e discussão dos resultados, percebeu-se que o simulador gera resultados satisfatórios e condizentes com o estudado. INTRODUÇÃOPresente em diferentes áreas e muito utilizada para resolução de problemas e tomada de decisão, a simulação computacional vem ganhando um grande destaque nos últimos anos, por se tratar de uma ferramenta versátil e de fácil utilização. A simulação computacional pode ser, igualmente, utilizada em pesquisas e projetos de um curso de Engenheira Química. Esta ferramenta, juntamente com os fundamentos de Balanço de Massa e Energia, Transferência de Calor, Movimento e Massa, Modelagem Computacional e Operações Unitárias auxiliam na elaboração de um projeto, desde as torres de destilação até um vaso reacional, tão presentes no ambiente de trabalho de um engenheiro químico. O simulador computacional pode ainda aprofundar e ampliar a compreensão das hipóteses que fundamentam a teoria dos três principais modelos de reatores químicos ideais.Os autores Rodrigues et al. (2010) propuseram um simulador, implementado utilizando o software EMSO (Environment for Modeling, Simulation and Optimization), que trabalhasse reatores químicos de forma didática. Desenvolvido na Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), o simulador possui o intuito de auxiliar a compreensão de conceitos e teorias sobre o Cálculo de Reatores dentro da academia. Outro software conhecido utilizado para resolução de problemas envolvendo reatores químicos é o GNU Octave (Eaton, 1997), sendo desenvolvido originalmente para estudantes do curso de Engenharia Química da Universidade de Texas.
