Genetic parameters, correlation and path analysis for 12 yield and quality traits were studied during rabi, 2009-10 in 21 genotypes of rice. High estimates of GCV were recorded for plant height, number of filled grains/panicle and grain yield/plant. Heritability in broad sense was high for all the characters except spikelet fertility. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as per cent mean were recorded for number of productive tillers/plant, panicle density, number of filled grains/panicle, 1000-grain weight, grain yield/plant and kernel length. Grain yield/plant exhibited highly significant and positive correlation with days to 50 % flowering, plant height, productive tillers/plant, panicle length, panicle density and filled grains/panicle. Path coefficient studies indicated maximum direct positive effect of plant height, productive tillers, filled grains/panicle and kernel length and kernel breadth on grain yield/plant.

Thirty-one accessions of Oryza glaberrima were evaluated to study the genetic variability, correlation, path, principal component analysis (PCA) and D2 analysis. Box plots depicted high estimates of variability for days to 50% flowering and grain yield per plant in Kharif 2016, plant height, productive tillers, panicle length and 1000 seed weight in Kharif 2017. Correlation studies revealed days to 50% flowering, plant height, panicle length, number of productive tillers, spikelets per panicle having a high direct positive association with grain yield, while path analysis identified the number of productive tillers having the maximum direct positive effect on grain yield. Days to 50% flowering via spikelets per panicle, productive tillers and plant height via spikelets per panicle exhibited high positive indirect effects on grain yield per plant. PCA showed that a cumulative variance of 54.752% from yield per plant, days to 50% flowering, spikelets per panicle and panicle length, contributing almost all the variation of traits while D2 analysis identified days to 50% flowering and grain yield per plant contributing maximum to the genetic diversity. Therefore, selection of accessions with more number of productive tillers and early maturity would be most suitable for yield improvement programme. The study has revealed the utility of African rice germplasm and its potential to utilize in the genetic improvement of indica rice varieties.

Present investigation was carried out to identify plant growth promoting rhizobacterial isolates for abiotic stress tolerance. To achieve this bacterial isolates were isolated from different rhizospheric soils of Telanagana and screened for plant growth promoting properties and tolerance to different abiotic stresses such as pH, temperature, salt, drought and heavy metals. Such PGPR will be helpful for efficient management of abiotic stresses in crop production. Rhizospheric soils from normal, salt affected, drought affected and bulk soils were collected from different places of Telangana state. From all soil samples, based on cultural, morphological and biochemical characterization it was found that forty four were of Bacillus spp. Among the forty four (44) Bacillus isolates, twenty eight (28) isolates were showing plant growth promoting properties. These positive isolates tested for abiotic stress tolerance to pH, temperature, salt, drought and heavy metals (As and Cd). Four isolates were showed growth at pH range from 4-12 (BS 1, BS 3, BS 14, BS 18), five isolates were showed tolerance to 1.5 to 20 % of NaCl concentration (BS 1, BS 3, BS 14, BS 18, BS 42, six isolates showed tolerance to temperature from 20ºC -50ºC (BS 10, BS 14, BS 18, BS 27, BS 37, BS 43), four isolates showed tolerance to water potential from - 0.05 Mpa to- 0.73 Mpa (BS 4, BS 10, BS 18, BS 33).
