Dieser Beitrag erganzt die bereits an dieser Stelle erschienenen Fortschrittsberichte z u r Anwendung d e r radioaktiven und stabilen lsotopen nach d e r Seite d e r anorganischen, organischen und physikalischen Chemie. Folgende Verwendungen werden geschildert : Aufklarung von Strukturen und Reaktionsrnechanisrnen, Problerne d e r physikalischen und analytischen Chernie, die Ernanierrnethode, Grenzflachenforschung, Bodenuntersuchungen.Die Fulle der heute bekannten kunstlich radioaktiver Isotope') wird durch Kernreaktionen und besondere Abtrennungs-verfahren2) erhalten. Seefrnar~n-Eggebert~) h a t auf die Vorteile hingewiesen, dic die Verwendung der bei der Uran-Spaltung anfallenden etwa 100 Isotope von etwa 25 verschiedenen Elementen init sich bringt. Auch hierfur wurden Verfahren zur direkten Herauslosung einzelner Elemente und ein vollstandiger Trennungsgang ausgearbeitet3).Man miCt die Iionzentration der radioaktivrn Indikatorcn i in Reaktioilsprodulit meist niit dcm Geigerschcn Zihlrohr5), srltencr duroh Autoradiographir (Schwirzung dcr photographischcn Plattc). Austauschreaktionen, Strukturaufklarung und ReaktionsmechanismenDie groBe Bedeutung von AustauschreaktionenlO) liegt in den Aufschlussen, die sie uber die Struktur der Verbindungen und den Reaktionsablauf liefern. Bei q u a n t i t a t i v e n Schlussen mu8 man beim Deuterium beachten, daB es sich in seiner Affinitat nicht unerheblich von gewohnlichem Wasserstoff unterscheidet. Schon fruh wurden Ionen-Austauschreaktionen als Beweis fur die D i s s o z i a t i o n s t h e o r i e von Arrhenius herangezogenll).Wird B l e i c h l o r i d rnit einem Bleinitrat, dessen Bleiatome z. T. durch radioaktives *IOPb (RaD) ersetzt sind, in Wasser gelost und die beiden S a k e dann durch Krystallisation getrennt, SO hat sich die Radioaktivitat gleichmafiig auf beide Salze verteilt. Ersatz des Wassers durch andere dissoziierende Losungsmittel andert das Ergebnis nicht.
