The experiment was conducted at multilocation testing (MLT) site, Sujanagar, Pabna during the year of 2003-2004 to find out a soil test based economically viable fertilizer recommendation for the cropping pattern Boro-T. aman. Six treatments viz., moderate yield goal (MYG), high yield goal (HYG), integrated plant nutrient system (IPNS), recommended fertilizer of FRG' 97 (BARC) guide (RF), farmers' practice (FP), and absolute control were employed for the study. The grain yield of Boro and T. aman rice increased 18 and 14%, respectively, by IPNS compared to farmers' practice. Total grain yield of rice was increased by about 16% in the IPNS fertilizer package compared to farmers' practice. Fertilizer nutrients supplied both from organic and inorganic sources in adequate amount have a positive effect on productivity of soil. On an average it was found that highest grain yields of Boro rice (5.37 t/ha) and T. aman (4.49 t/ha) were obtained from integrated plant nutrient system (IPNS) where farmers' practice gave yield of 4.55 and 3.94 t/ha. The highest average gross margin (70385 Tk./ha) and marginal benefit cost ratio (3.78) was also obtained from IPNS plots.
Different combinations of chemical fertilizers and organic manure were applied for sustainable crop productivity in the cauliflower-stem amaranth -jute cropping pattern. The experiment was conducted at farmer's field in Multilocation Testing (MLT) site of Pakshi, Pahna over three years. There were five combinations of chemical fertilizers (CF) and poultry manure (PM) along with absolute control arranged in a randomized complete block design. The results revealed that all three crops showed significant yield for fertilizer and poultry manure use. Higher yields were obtained with 50% CF + 50% PM followed by 75% CF + 25% PM treatments where cauliflower equivalent yield was increased by 85% and 78%, respectively, over control. This indicates a positive residual effect of poultry manure on the subsequent crops. From the economic points of view, the highest marginal benefit cost ratio (MBCR) was attained in 100% chemical fertilizer due to its lower variable cost followed by 75% CF + 25% PM treated plots. However, gross margin was higher in 50% CF + 50% PM combination for its higher total yield.
An experiment was carried out at the Agroforestry and Environment Research Farm, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dinajpur, Bangladesh, during April, 2014 to January 2015. The experiment was laid out in two factors Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Among the two factors, one factor like A was two production systems: S 1 = Mango + Turmeric and S 2 = Turmeric (sole crop); another factor like B was three turmeric variety: V 1 = BARI Holud-1, V 2 = BARI Holud-2 and V 3 = BARI Holud-3. So, the treatment combinations were: S 1 V 1 = Mango + BARI Holud-1, S 1 V 2 = Mango + BARI Holud-2, S 1 V 3 = Mango + BARI Holud-3, S 2 V 1 = sole cropping of BARI Holud-1, S 2 V 2 = sole cropping of BARI Holud-2 and S 2 V 3 = sole cropping of BARI Holud-3. The result of the experiment revealed that interaction effect of production systems and variety was found significant on plant height, number of leaf per plant, length of leaf blade, breadth of leaf blade, number of finger per rhizome, fresh and dry yield per hectare. The higher fresh yield of turmeric (34.75 t/ha) and dry yield (6.10 t/ha) was found from S 1 V 1 treatment (Mango + BARI Holud-1). Whereas the lowest fresh yield (33.41 t/ha) and dry yield (4.93 t/ha) was found from S 2 V 2 treatment (sole cropping of BARI Holud-2). However, the suitability of the cultivation of different turmeric variety under mango based agroforestry systems may be ranked as S 1 V 1 > S 2 V 1 > S 1 V 3 > S 2 V 3 > S 1 V 2 > S 2 V 2 . Finally it may be concluded that, BARI Holud-1 would be the best variety to be grown under mango based agroforestry. The experiment was conducted at char Sadipur the char land of Pabna during the Rabi season of 2013-14 and 2014-15 to determine appropriate fertilizer dose for enhancing production and economic return from Lentil+ Mustard mixed cropping system. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with 3 dispersed replications. Eight soil test based fertilizer packages viz.,T1: N20 P24 K20 S18 Zn2 B1.5, T2: N25 P24 K20 S18 Zn2 B1.5, T3: N25 P30 K20 S18 Zn2 B1.5, T4: N25 P24 K25 S18 Zn2 B1.5, T5: N20 P30 K25 S18 Zn2 B1.5, T6: N25 P30 K25 S18 Zn2 B1.5, T7: N15 P18 K15 S14 Zn1.5 B1kg ha-1kg ha-1 and T8: native nutrient (control) were tested for lentil + mustard mixed cropping system. Soil test based N25 P30 K25 S18 Zn2 B1.5 (T6) showed better performance on crop growth and yield of lentil and mustard in lentil+ mustard mixed cropping system in both the year. The highest lentil yield 0.70 t ha-1 in 2013-14 and 0.95 t ha-1 in 2014-15 was obtained from soil test based N25 P30 K25 S18 Zn2 B1.5 (T6). Similarly, maximum lentil equivalent yield (1233 Kg ha-1in 2013-14 and 1280Kg ha-1 in 2014-15) was also obtained from the same treatment. The maximum gross margin (Tk. 31639 ha-1 in 2013-14 and Tk. 32480 ha-1 in 2014-15) was recorded from soil test based N25 P30 K25 S18 Zn2 B1.5. So, application of soil test based fertilizer increases lentil and mustard yield as mixed crop as well as income of the farmers. Bangladesh Agron. J. 2019, 22(1): 1-6
