Agriculture is the main economy for rural population over 70 per cent of Indian population depends on agriculture directly or indirectly. Agriculture plays important role in rural economy. Weather plays crucial role in agriculture. Timely weather forecasting plays main role in agriculture by keeping the view India Meteorological Department and Indian Council for Agricultural Research, were initiated 1 centers at KVK. In Andhra Pradesh 7 District agro-meteorological units (DAMUs) centers (Amadalavalasa, Rastakuntabai, Garikapadu, Darsi, Nellore, Utukuru and Banavasi) were established as well as in India 340 DAMUs were established to send agro advisory services at district level. In N.T.R and Krishna district DAMU initiated during the year 2019 located at Dr. K.L. Rao Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Garikapadu. The DAMU units send biweekly bulletins in the N.T.R and Krishna district every Tuesday and Friday. During the year 2022-23 in Kharif season provides more number of agro and its allied sectors advisories. In cotton Boll Rot management and Pink Boll Worm management messages more number of messages sent. Horticulture crops such as Chilliprovided more no. of messages on black thrips management. In livestock buffalo foot and mouth disease control vaccine messages has been sanded as well as in poultry to control of rannikhet disease sent more. Weather related messages has been communicated through what’s app groups and telegrams.
The survey was conducted from June 2022 to January 2023 to study the impact of Agro meteorology Advisory Services and to know the increases of production of cotton crops concerning the effect of weather parameters in selected villages under the DAMU project in NTR district, Andhra Pradesh. District Agromet Units (DAMU) which was established in Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s by Andhra Pradesh cooperative program of India Meteorology Department and Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The Main theme of DAMU is to provide timely location specific Agro-met advisories to the farmers at the sub divisional and district level. The agro meteorology advisory services were provided weekly twice among the sub divisions (Tuesday and Friday) and disseminated to farmers by including cotton growers using Whats App, emails and other print media. The impact assessment was based on feedback to come at significant illation in terms of using of Agro meteorology Advisory Service (AAS) by farmers. The assessment study revealed that the farmers who adopted agro advisory services on real-time basis obtained 18 % higher net return in cotton compared to Non-AAS farmers which were benefited by forecasting of rainfall for timely agricultural operations, the recommended dose of fertilizers, and efficient use of pesticides majors in a required support manner during different crop growth stages were advised in bi-weekly bulletins. AAS farmers benefited by timely application of insecticides and fertilizers, timely accurate weather forecasting and timely agricultural operations to gain more yield in cotton crop as compared to Non-AAS farmers. AAS might be used to be helpful to the farmers in managing and changing weather, finally decreased input cost in agriculture and acquiring cost-effective agricultural production by adopting of weather-based Agromet Advisory.
Sucking pests and pink bollworm are serious pest of cotton one after the other in India by causing serious yield losess. The present investigation was carried out in three major cotton growing mandals of NTR district to understand the level of pest incidence in Bt cotton during Kharif, 2022-23 on regular interval. Among the sucking pests only thrips population recorded 32.26 no/3 leaves and crossed the ETL at 45 DAS. Remaining sucking pests such as Leafhopper, whitefly and aphid did not crossed ETL during crop growth period and highest incidence of 5.92, 4.04 and 27.14 no/3 leaves was recorded respectively at 45, 60 and 120 DAS. Whereas pink bollworm recorded 23.10% rosette flowers, 44.04% boll damage in Bheemavaram village of Vastavai mandal and 40.83% locule damage in Konakanchi village of Penuganchiprolu mandal.
