(Piperaceae) are mainly comprised of phenylpropanoid dillapiol, a group of substances widely known by their insecticide and synergistic properties. The abundance of P. aduncum in the state of Acre, and the need to control the bean leaf beetle, Cerotoma tingomarianus Bechyné motivated this study, which examined the toxic effects of P. aduncum oil on these beetles. Mortality rate, survival and foliar consumption were used to evaluate the effects of topical (LD 50 and LT 50 ) and contact (filter-paper) (LC 50 ) applications of different oil concentrations. The toxicity of P. aduncum oil to C. tingomarianus was high with: LC 50 of 0.06 ml/ cm 2 and LD 50 of 0.002 ml/mg of the insect. For contact (filter-paper) applications, the mortality rate was nearly 100% at oil concentrations of 1%, whereas for topical applications, the mortality rate changed from 5% to 30%. Oil concentrations of 2.5% and 5% significantly reduced the foliar consumption by the beetles. Oil concentrations above 5% greatly reduced the LT 50 . Contact application (filter-paper) of P. aduncum oils have, therefore, insecticide effects on C. tingomarianus, when applied at 0,04 % concentration. In case of topical application, these oils can cause physiological problems, when used at concentrations higher than 2.5%.KEY WORDS: Dillapiol, essential oil, botanical insecticide RESUMO -No óleo essencial de Piper aduncum L. (Piperaceae) predomina o fenilpropanóide dilapiol, com reconhecida ação inseticida e sinergista. A abundância dessa piperácea no Acre e a necessidade do controle de Cerotoma tingomarianus Bechyné estimularam a realização desta pesquisa com o objetivo de avaliar a toxicidade do óleo essencial de P. aduncum sobre adultos da praga. Avaliou-se o efeito da aplicação de contato tópica (DL 50 e TL 50 ) e da ação por contato com superfície contaminada (papel-filtro) (CL 50 ) de diferentes concentrações do óleo, por meio da mortalidade e consumo foliar do inseto. Verificou-se que a toxicidade do óleo de P. aduncum para C. tingomarianus foi alta, considerando-se a CL 50 = 0,06 ml de óleo/ cm 2 e DL 50 = 0,002 ml de óleo/ mg de inseto. A mortalidade dos insetos alcançou praticamente 100% nas concentrações de 1% do óleo na avaliação por contato (papel-filtro) e de 5% a 30% nas concentrações aplicadas topicamente. Houve redução significativa do consumo foliar dos insetos nas concentrações de 2,5% e 5%, além da redução do TL 50 em função do aumento das concentrações. O óleo de P. aduncum apresenta efeito inseticida para C. tingomarianus na concentração de 0,04% por contato (papel-filtro), provocando ainda distúrbios fisiológicos pela ação da aplicação tópica em concentrações superiore...

RESUMOÓleos essenciais das piperáceas Piper aduncum L., Piper hispidinervum C. DC. e da bignoniácea Tanaecium nocturnum (Barb. Rodr.) Bur. & K. Shum foram avaliados para o controle de larvas de Tenebrio molitor L., 1758. Para a avaliação do efeito por contato em superfície contaminada, foram utilizados papéis-filtro impregnados com diferentes quantidades dos óleos essenciais. Para a avaliação do efeito tópico foram aplicados 5 mL de soluções com diferentes concentrações dos óleos sobre larvas de quinto instar do inseto. A taxa de mortalidade foi a variável utilizada para avaliar os experimentos. Todos os óleos essenciais apresentaram efeito inseticida sobre larvas de T. molitor, sendo que as respostas variaram em função da concentração utilizada, assim como do método de exposição do inseto. A toxicidade dos óleos essenciais foi elevada apresentando os seguintes valores de CL 50 : 0,045; 0,033 e 1,515 mL de óleo cm -2 para exposição por contato (papel filtro) aos óleos de P. hispidinervum, P. aduncum e T. nocturnum, respectivamente. Para a aplicação tópica, os valores da DL 50 foram de: 0,000025; 0,009 e 0,000015 mL de óleo mg de inseto -1 para os óleos essenciais de P. hispidinervum, P. aduncum e T. nocturnum, respectivamente. Resultados promissores para o emprego desses óleos essenciais como inseticidas foram obtidos utilizando-se concentrações acima de 3,0% (v v -1 ) para P. hispidinervum e 2,5% (v v -1 ) para P. aduncum e T. nocturnum. (Piperaceae) and Tanaecium nocturnum (Barb. Rodr.) Bur.& K. Shum (Bignoniaceae) were tested against Tenebrio molitor L., 1758 larvaes. Filter paper with different amounts of oils were employed for contact toxicity effects study. For topical effect study, aliquots of 5 mL of oils at different concentrations were applied on larvaes of the fifth instar. Mortality rate was used to evaluate the assays. All essential oils possessed insecticidal effect to T. molitor, but the responses varied according to oil concentration and method of exposure. The toxicities of essential oils to T. molitor were elevated, with LC 50 of 0.045, 0.033 and 1.515 mL of the oil/cm 2 for contact (filter-paper) applications of the P. hispidinervum, P. aduncum and T. nocturnum oil, respectively. For topical application the values of the LD 50 were: 0.000025, 0.009 and 0.000015 mL of the oil /mg of the insect, for P. hispidinervum, P. aduncum and T. nocturnum oil, respectively. The most promising results for the use of such oils as insecticide were obtained using concentrations above 3,0% (v v -1 ) for P. hispidinervum and 2,5% (v v -1 ) for P. aduncum and T. nocturnum essential oils.

A abundância e o potencial inseticida de Derris amazonica e a necessidade de controle de Cerotoma arcuatus Olivier (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) na cultura do feijão-caupi (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp) estimularam a realização desta pesquisa, que objetivou avaliar a ação inseticida do extrato de D. amazonica a adultos de C. arcuatus em condições de laboratório. Os bioensaios testaram as vias de intoxicação por ingestão de folhas contaminadas, contato com superfície contaminada e aplicação tópica, com delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. Insecticide action of the extract of Derris amazonica Killip for Cerotoma arcuatus Olivier (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) ABSTRACTThe abundance and insecticidal potential of Derris amazonica in addition to need of controlling Cerotoma arcuatus for bean crop stimulated this research. The objective of this work was to evaluate insecticide action of the extract of D. amazonica to adults of C. arcuatus in laboratory conditions. The bioassays were carried out using three distend methodologies: leaf intake, contact in treated surface (filter paper) and topical application. A completed randomized experimental design was used with four replications. Mortality values and leaf consumption of the insects were subjected to regression analyses, being the Probit analyses used to determine of the i.e., LC 50 , LT 50 and LD 50 . The extract of D. amazonica containing 3.7% of rotenone was toxic to adults C. arcuatus when exposed to treated leaves (LC 50 = 15.14 µl.mL ). In all bioassays the adults mortality was higher than 80% with lower median lethal times obtained with 5% (v.v -1 ) concentrations of the extract. Leaf consumption by adults C. arcuatus was inversely proportional to the concentration of the extract when exposed by leaf intake or topical application, also being observed inhibition of feeding individuals. The extract of D. amazonica is toxic to C. arcuatus and inhibits the feeding of insects from the concentration of 1% (v v -1 ).

The characterization and evaluation of banana genotypes (Musa spp.) is an important step both for breeding programs and for indication to farmers. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate banana genotypes in Rio Branco-Acre, aiming at their incorporation into the region 's production systems. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design in a subdivided plots scheme with five replicates and four plants per plot. The treatments of the plots were the three production cycles, and the subplots were the nineteen banana genotypes. We evaluated plant's height; perimeter of the pseudostem base; number of active leaves at the inflorescence and harvesting stage; the period from planting until flowering, the period from flowering until harvest and period from planting until harvest; the mass of the bunch, the total number of fruits per bunch; the number of pieces; productivity. The genotypes Thap Maeo, FHIA-02, FHIA-18, and Maravilha, present the best agronomic performance and have the potential to be incorporated into the banana production system in the edaphoclimatic conditions of the Rio Branco, Acre region.

RESUMOO óleo essencial extraído de folhas frescas de Tanaecium nocturnum (Barb. Rodr.) Bur.& K. Shum por destilação de arraste a vapor foi avaliado quanto à toxicidade a Sitophilus zeamais Motsch., principal praga do milho armazenado. Papel de filtro e grãos de milho foram impregnados pelo óleo para se avaliar o efeito por via de contato (papel-filtro) e fumigação, respectivamente. Para avaliação do efeito da aplicação tópica 0,5 µl das diferentes concentrações do óleo foram aplicadas em adultos do inseto. A partir de uma ampla faixa de concentrações, foram determinadas as mais promissoras para os bioensaios definitivos. Na determinação das dose/concentrações-letais (DL 50 e CL 50 ) foi utilizada a análise de Probit, realizando-se também, uma análise de regressão linear conjunta de todos os dados de mortalidade. O óleo de T. nocturnum foi considerado tóxico para S. zeamais baseado nos seguintes valores: CL 50 de 14,1 ng.cm -2 e CL 50 de 1.321,6 ng.g -1 de grãos para os efeitos de contacto (papel-filtro) e fumigação, respectivamente, e DL 50 de 14,7 µg.mg -1 de inseto para efeito tópico. Porcentagens de mortalidade próximas a 100 % foram obtidas nas concentrações de: 2 e 5 % (m/v) (contato), 3 4, e 5 % (m/v) (fumigação) e 10 % (m/v) para o efeito de aplicação tópica. O presente estudo mostrou que o ácido cianídrico, liberado do óleo essencial de T. nocturnum por hidrólise, pode ter atividade inseticida para S. zeamais e que concentrações acima de 4 % (m/v) são promissoras no controle do inseto. . Filter paper and maize grains impregnation was employed, for contact and fumigant toxicity effect studies, respectively. For topical effect studies, aliquots of 0,5 µl of the diluted oil applied to adults insects. We used a broad range of concentrations to be used for establish the most promising concentrations. Probit analysis was employed in analyzing the dose/ concentration-mortality response (LD 50 and LC 50 ). Linear regression analysis was applied in mortality of maize weevil adults. The toxicity (LC 50 ) T. nocturnum oil to S. zeamais was of 14.1 ng.cm -2 and LC 50 of 1,321.6 ng.g -1 of the grains for contact and fumigant effects, respectively, and LD 50 of 14.7 µg.mg -1 of the insect for topical application. For contact and fumigant effects, the mortality rate was nearly 100 % at oil concentrations of 2 % and 5 % (m/v), and 4 % and 5 % (m/v), respectively. For contact, fumigant, and topical effects, the mortality rate was nearly 100 % at oil concentrations of 2 % and 5 % (m/v); 4 % and 5 % (m/v) and 10 % (m/v) respectively. The current study shows that cyanidric acid, liberated from the essential oil of the T. nocturnum, posses fumigant insecticidal effect on S. zeamais in concentrations more than 4 % (m/v) were promises.
