Aims and objectives: Since atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) involves removal of carious lesions with manual instruments, there are more chances of residual bacteria under the glass ionomer restoration which might lead to secondary caries. Hence improving the antibacterial effect of glass ionomer cement helps in achieving better success rate. This study aimed to evaluate the compressive strength of glass ionomer cement containing different antibiotics. Materials and methods:Conventional restorative glass ionomer cement (Fuji IX) was used as control group. The experimental groups used were as follows: group 1: (Ciprofloxacin 50 mg + Cefuroxime 50 mg + metrogyl 50 mg) + GIC 9850 mg. Group 2: (ciprofloxacin 100 mg + cefuroxime 100 mg + metrogyl 100 mg) + GIC 9700 mg. Group 3: cetrimide 100 mg + GIC 9900 mg. Group 4: cetrimide 200 mg + GIC 9800 mg. Cylindrical specimens of dimensions 6 mm of length and 5 mm in diameter were prepared. The specimens were subjected to compressive loading using Instron universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/minute. Results:The experimental groups showed lower compressive strength when compared to the control group. No significant difference was found between control group and group 1. The compressive strength of groups 2, 3 and 4 was significantly less when compared to control group and group 1.
Introduction: Benign as well as malignant breast lesions are quite common in Indian population. It is the second most common cancer site after cancer cervix. Fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is safe, reliable, and time saving outdoor procedure with little discomfort to the patient. Objective: The current study was aimed to study the frequency of various breast lesions on FNAC in a tertiary care center and its histopathological correlation. Methodology: Total of 217 cases of FNAC was conducted in the palpable lesions of the breast. Result: Most of the lesions were noted in the left breast (123) lesions out of which 29 were malignant. The various benign neoplastic lesions seen were 81 patients. Fibroadenoma were found mostly in the age group of 21-30 years. 41 cases of fibrocystic disease found mostly in the age group of 31 to 50 years. The lymph node metastasis was seen in 5 patients with 35 to 55yrs of age. There were 71 benign neoplastic lesions and 21 cases of malignancy available for histopathology. FNAC was 80.9% sensitive and 95.89% specific in diagnosing malignant lesions. Conclusion: A high sensitivity and a high positive predictive value proved that a positive FNAC in the breast means a definite diagnosis of the concerned pathology if compared with the final histology report. Thus, we have no hesitation in concluding that FNAC is a very important preliminary diagnostic test in palpable breast lumps and done by expert hands, the results show a high degree of correlation with the final histopathology report.
Abstract:Successful treatment of any case mainly depends on proper diagnosis; this is particularly true when we are doing an endodontic treatment. Internal anatomy of root canal system varies a lot and predisposes to inadequate root canal preparation and should be recognized before or during treatment. Proper knowledge of these anatomical variations and proper diagnosis are of paramost important. As the routine diagnostic aids, radiograph is a two dimensional representation of a three dimensional object where the internal anatomy of the tooth cannot be appreciated properly. Spiral computed tomography (SCT) has got an advantage as it gives a 3 dimensional image of a given object. We present an interesting case of multiple canals in all the teeth except incisors in a single patient which was diagnosed with the aid of Dental CT and its potential role, this diagnostic method can help in the field of endodontics
