La lucha por la autonomía, la igualdad de derechos, y las reivindicaciones específicas de las mujeres ha sido una constante histórica, y se ha venido impulsando con más fuerza en los consensos internacionales de los últimos 40 años. Las políticas públicas son herramientas mediante las cuales el Estado puede cumplir su obligación de garantizar todos los derechos sin discriminaciones de género. Por lo tanto, su adecuada formulación en concordancia con los estándares internacionales de derechos humanos y con la Agenda Regional de Género, es un paso imprescindible para alcanzar la igualdad sustantiva de género. El objetivo de esta investigación es realizar una comparación normativa del Plan de igualdad de oportunidades y derechos (PIOD) de Argentina y la Política Pública Nacional de Equidad de Género (PPNEG) de Colombia respecto a la garantía de derechos humanos y el empoderamiento económico y político de las mujeres. Se utiliza un enfoque metodológico cualitativo, de tipo estudio de caso. Se usa una evaluación normativa a partir de un enfoque de derechos humanos. Se encuentra que ambas políticas cumplen con la mayoría de los contenidos mínimos de la autonomía económica y política de las mujeres y los estándares de derechos humanos, no obstante, las cifras de cada país demuestran que la igualdad de género en sus diferentes dimensiones aún no se ha alcanzado. Se concluye que las políticas de igualdad de género de estos países coinciden en establecer acciones afirmativas y diferenciadas en pro de los derechos de las mujeres, pero difieren en su formulación debido a sus características socioculturales.
