Redescription of Proteocephalus jarara (Fuhrmann, 1927) (Cestoda: Proteocephalidae) parasite of Bothrops alternatus Dum., Bibr. & Dum., 1854, from Brazil. -Specimens of Proteocephalus jarara (Fuhrmann, 1927 collected in Bothrops jararaca from Brazil and relevant types are redescribed and figured. The species shows the following morphoanatomical characters: the gravid uterus extending from the medulla to the dorsal cortex; the arrangement of the uterine branches in cross section fan-like; the vitelline follicles in a latero-dorsal position attached to the internal longitudinal musculature and extending into both the cortex and medulla; a characteristic circular musculature structure of the scolex suckers. The type were collected in Bothrops alternatus which may be misidentification. We presume that the host is Bothrops jararaca. Ophiotaenia jarara Dos Santos and Tayt-Son Rolas, 1973 nee Furhmann, 1927 belongs to Proteocephalus sp. Ophiotaenia sp. sensu Dos Santos and Tayt-Son Rolas, 1973 refers to P. jarara (Furhmann, 1927).
