Different fractions of hemp shives are used in the mixtures of the hemp–lime composite. The market offers shives of different granulation. It depends on the type of industrial hemp and on the capabilities of decortication machines. The aim of the research presented in the article is to check differences in the mechanical and hygro-thermal properties of composites with different shives fractions. The research part of the paper presents the preparation method and investigation on hemp–lime composites. Apparent density, total porosity, thermal conductivity, capillary uptake, vapor permeability, specific heat, mass absorptivity, flexural and compressive strength were examined. The results confirm that the shives fraction influences the individual properties of the composites. Hemp–lime composites with fine shives are characterized by higher water absorption, thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, vapor permeability as well as lower capillary-lifting capacity and specific heat than composites with thick shives.

Mineralization, involving vanadian-chromian silicates, has been studied in Lower Paleozoic, carbon-rich amphibole schists with pyrite and pyrrhotite near Pezinok, southwest Slovakia. A detailed electron microprobe study has revealed the presence of V,Cr-rich garnet, clinozoisite, and muscovite, associated with amphiboles (magnesiohornblende, tremolite, actinolite, and edenite), diopside, and albite. The garnet contains 5-19 wt% V 2 O 3 , 5-11 wt% Cr 2 O 3 , and 2-13 wt% Al 2 O 3 (16-64 mol% goldmanite, 19-36 mol% uvarovite, and 9-59 mol% grossular end-members). The garnet is unzoned or shows V-rich cores and Al-rich rims, or irregular coarse oscillatory zoning with V, Cr, and Al, locally involving Ca and Mn as well. The V,Cr-rich clinozoisite to mukhinite and "chromian clinozoisite" contains 2-9.5 wt% V 2 O 3 and 1.5-11 wt% Cr 2 O 3 ; the muscovite contains 2.5-8 wt% V 2 O 3 and 0-7 wt% Cr 2 O 3 . The mineralization originated from primarily V-, Cr-, and C-rich mafic pyroclastic rocks, affected by volcano-exhalative processes. These rocks were weakly metamorphosed during early Hercynian regional metamorphism (M1), followed by late-Hercynian contact metamorphism (M2) with crystallization of V,Cr-rich silicates, diopside, amphiboles, phlogopite, titanite, albite, quartz, carbonate, pyrite, and pyrrhotite. The youngest Alpine(?) retrograde metamorphic event (M3) is connected with production of V,Cr-poor muscovite, clinochlore, clinozoisite, pumpellyite-(Mg), prehnite, quartz, and carbonates, under prehnite-pumpellite facies conditions.

Sm–Co-type alloys were disproportionated by milling in hydrogen at enhanced temperatures. X-ray diffraction confirmed the disproportionation of the SmCo5 and Sm2Co17 phases into Sm hydride and α-Co. This “reactive milling” procedure facilitates the disproportionation of these alloys which are characterized by a very high thermodynamic stability, and therefore are not available for a standard hydrogenation disproportionation desorption recombination treatment. Recombination of the reactively milled powders leads to the formation of the original phases, now with dramatically refined grain sizes of around 25 nm and significant coercivities such as μ0JHC=3.7 T in the case of the SmCo5 alloy. Exchange coupling between the nanoscaled grains resulted in magnetically single phase behavior despite a multiphase microstructure. In particular, for the Sm2Co17 alloy, a remanence enhancement was observed for recombination temperatures ⩽700 °C.
