In this paper, three difference-cum-ratio estimators for estimating finite population coefficient of variation of the study variable using known population mean, population variance and population coefficient of variation of auxiliary variable were suggested. The biases and mean square errors (MSEs) of the proposed estimators were obtained. The relative performance of the proposed estimators with respect to that of some existing estimators were assessed using two populations’ information. The results showed that the proposed estimators were more efficient than the usual unbiased, ratio type, exponential ratio-type, difference-type and other existing estimators considered in the study.
The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is skills and training preparatory program meant to expose students of higher institutions of learning to practical experiences outside their institutions. Quality of the students’ exposure to industrial work experience and unemployment trend of graduates poses a serious threat to institution(s), societies and environment at large. The study examined the performance of Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme in Federal polytechnic Offa, Nigeria. The study adopted a quantitative approach and data were elicited from five years (2014-2018) of National Diploma Students of the seventeen (17) participating departments. Inferential statistics of Two-Way Analysis of Variance and Simple descriptive statistical models were used in the analysis of data. The study revealed the downward trend in the performance of students. The p-values of the mean scores of students in each departments was 0.002 and the mean scores of students on yearly basis of 0.016 were all less than 0.05. The study rejects the null hypothesis and accepts the alternative hypothesis that there is significant difference between the departmental and yearly SIWES scores of students. The result of the Least Significant Difference (LSD) post hoc test revealed that the difference is between all the departments. The study recommended a data pool of relevant training organizations and the development of technology for proper placement of students to improve their skill acquisition and employability.
Graduate training is one of the core courses offered in all polytechnics systems in Nigeria, each polytechnic gives orientation programmes and deploys students for industrial training once a year. These processes of pen on paper method throw serious challenges because of time authorization and time frame. Placement of undergraduate students looking for relevant Industrial Training (IT) attachment is becoming worrisome. This research tends to provide a web based solution called Digital Collaborative Framework (DCF) for Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and sustainability in Federal Polytechnic Offa, Nigeria. This is to bridge the gap between educational institutions and the industries subject to training and re-training perspectives. The stakeholders can easily turn DCF into e-administrative tools, then allow students to get industrial placement relevant to their field of studies. The research proposed to develop a productive web application using Codeigniter Php framework. This research will serve as a cloud database to students, staff and other stakeholders and create access to examine, monitor and measure students’ performance at the end of the (SIWES) scheme.
IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) is an architectural framework designed to merge the Internet and cellular networks, as such users can have access to the current and future services available over the Internet with their mobile devices anytime and virtually everywhere at affordable charges and faster rates, but heterogeneity of access networks in IMS-based systems makes handover process to be a critical issue, especially when moving from one access network to another access network with different technology, hence there is a need to devise a simple approach to estimate handover delay when moving to any access network. This paper proposes a simple method to estimate handover delay for IMS-based systems with heterogeneous access networks. The proposed method can be used to estimate handover delay for current and future access networks, but for illustration purpose, in the paper two access networks were considered, i.e. UMTS and WLAN. Numerical analysis conducted in the paper has shown that handover process to UMTS access network tends to be much longer than that of WLAN access network.
This paper proposes a fast and seamless handover scheme for systems based on IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architectural framework with Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) access network. In the scheme the location, direction and movement pattern of a Mobile Node (MN) in a network cell are proactively tracked in order to determine the exact moment to trigger the pre-handover process with one of the adjacent cells considering MN's direction before the execution of Layer 2 handover. The performance of the proposed scheme was evaluated by comparing it with the traditional handover scheme and the evaluation shows that the traditional handover scheme introduced a handover delay of about 675.5 ms, whereas the proposed scheme introduced handover delay of about 96.25 ms, which is less than 100 ms, hence the handover delay introduced by the proposed scheme fall within the specified range of best class service for voice traffic and streaming media over IP networks.
