Abstract Tris-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-carbenium-triiodid, a salt of crystal violet, is determined as probable structure of the Gram Staining of Bacteria. A mechanism of it is proposed based on the chemical properties of this salt.
Abstract Carbocations of the tri-phenylmethylseries give with In - salts which are characterized by the natur of the anion. The preparation and general physical, spectral and chemical properties of tris-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-carbenium-triiodid (1), a salt of crystal violet, and bis-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-phenyl-carbenium-triiodid (2), a salt of malachite green, are described. The structure of the cations and anions of these carbeniumsalts is determined from their spectral data.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
