Two modes of electron emission have been observed from the ferroelectric ceramic PLZT when subjected to a high voltage bipolar pulse. One mode is always associated with bright visible plasma on the emitting surface, while the other occurs with no visible emission. Emitted current wave forms are consistent with two distinct mechanisms for emission: surface plasma in the first case and polarization switching in the second.

We report on the modeling of transient stimulated rotational Raman scattering in H 2 gas. We predict a multifrequency output, spanning a bandwidth greater than the pump frequency, that may be generated without any significant delay with respect to the pump pulses. The roles of dispersion and transiency are quantified.

Strong laser action on the 342-nm band of I2 has been obtained by transverse pumping I2/SF6 mixtures at 193 nm with an ArF laser. The highest output energy obtained was 230 mJ at an intrinsic energy conversion efficiency of approximately 30% equivalent to a photon efficiency of greater than 50%.
