Uber die Bestimmung tier Sehwefels~ure untt die Bestimmung des $chwefels in Pyriten sind in letzter Zeit mehrere Arbeiten ver-0ffentlicht worden. Nach einem Vorschlage yon M. J. v a n ' t Kruys~) wird bei der Bestimmung yon Sulfation in L0sungen, die Salze verschiedener Basen enthalten, bei Gegenwart einer hinreiehenden Nenge yon Kalziumchlorid mit BsryumehloridlSsung gefgllt und ein Baryum, suKatniederschlag erhalten, der nur durch Kalziumsulfat verunreinigt ist. Wird der Niederschlag sodann mit starker Salzs~ure gekocht, so bi]det das Kalziumsulfat mit dem i~bersch~iss!gen Barymnchlo[id Baryumsulfat und es ergibt sich ein Niederschlag, der keine Verunreinigungen yon Bedeutu lg enth~itt. Die yon E. I%uppin und yon O. F o l i n ~) bei der Bestimmung der Sch~:efels~im'e in stark chloridhaltigen KaliumsulfatlSsungen beobaehteten Verluste fahrt J. F. S a c h e t ~) auf die L5slichkeit des Baryumsulfats in den KaliumebloridlOsungen, sowie auf einen ungenagenden Ubersehuss des Ftillungsrnittels zurackl Baryumsulfat ist auch in dan w';issrigen LOsm~gen yon Ammonium-, N atrium-und Kalziumchlorid, sowie in Natrium-und Katiumchlorat, Kaliumbromid und N.~trimmfitrat 1Oslieh. Die L0sliehkeit steigt mit det~ Temperatur und der Konzentration der SatzlOsung, sic wird dureh freie Salzs~ture vermehrt und dureh Ba.sen vermindert. Daher erhielt g u p p i n bei G,egenwart yon viel Salzsiture ung~instige Resultate, w~hrend die Ergebnisse in schwaeh alkaliseher LSsung und naehfoigendem Ansguern befriedigend ausfielen. Sac heI: ffillte die Kaliumsulfatl6sungen, welehe auf 100 cem 0,t y Kaliumsulfat, 3q Kaliumehlorid und 1 ccm l/.~-Normalsalzs~ure enthielten, in der Siedhitze mit einer gleiehf~lls siedenden, dreiprozentigen Baryumehlorid-i6sung in sotchem Uberschusse, dass das dreifaebe der theoretisch erfordel:liehen Menge vorhanden war. Die F~llung blieb mindestens 14 Stunden stehen, wurde dann kalt filtriert und mit kaltem Wasser ausgewascben. Letztere fSrdern die an und far sich schon gleieh-fSrmig und sehnell stattfindende Durehwhrmung der Kochp]atte erheblich and dienen ferner zur Weiterleitung der Heizgase an das zu erhitzende Gef~iss. Ist einmal die Koehflasche auf die gewiinschte Temperatur gebracht, so geniigt eine kleine Heizflamme, um sie auf dieser zu erhalten, wodureh Gas erspart wird. Wird die Einsatzplatte aus dem Ring entfernt, so kann dieser aueh fiir andere Arbeiten Verwendung finden, so zum Beispiel durch Auflegen yon Dreiecken far Gliihzwecke. Weber. gut Bestimmung and Trennung des Mangans. Bei der g ew i c h t s a n a l y t i s c h e n B e s t i m m u n g des Mangans ist nach W i l l i a m B l u m e) die W~gung als wasserfreies Mangansulfat allen anderen Be-, stimmungsformen vorzuziehen. Man erh~lt das normale wasserffeie Mangansulfat nur durch l~ingeres Erhitzen auf 450 bis 500 o C. ; bei 5000 C. findet noch keine merkliche Zersetzang des Salzes statt, bei 550 bis 600 .o C. zersetzt es sich langsam. Das Erhitzen wird im offenen Tiegel in einer kleinen elektrisch geheizten Muffel vorgenommen ;,
