Structure D 2000The Crystal Structure of LiND2 and Mg(ND2)2. -The crystal structures of the title compounds are determined by high resolution powder neutron and synchrotron X-ray diffraction. LiND2 crystallizes in the tetragonal space group I4 with Z = 8. The Li + ions are tetrahedrally coordinated by four ions. Mg(ND2)2 crystallizes in the tetragonal space group I41/acd. The cation is again tetrahedrally coordinated by four amide ions. The metal amides LiNH2 and Mg(NH2)2 are compounds which may play important roles for designing new high-performance hydrogen storage materials. -(SOERBY*, M. H.; NAKAMURA, Y.; BRINKS, H. Chloride-Substitution in Sodium Borohydride. -Mixtures of NaBH 4 and NaCl in different ratios are milled in an Ar atmosphere. Powder XRD indicates that Na(BH4)1-xClx solid solutions are formed over the whole composition range. DSC shows that substitution of Cl for BH4 weakly stabilizes the product. Temperature-programmed desorption measurements reveal that the solid solutions release hydrogen with only trace amounts of diborane. -(OLSEN*, J. E.; SOERBY, M. H.; HAUBACK, B. C.; J. The hydrated Ruddlesden—Popper phase of title is prepared by hydrothermal treatment of LaSr3Fe3O9 with degassed H2O (or D2O) in a separate compartment (autoclave, 50 °C, 12 h).
Revisiting the Crystal Structure of Rhombohedral Lead Metaniobate. -The crystal structure of rhombohedral PbNb 2O6 is re-examined by powder XRD and powder neutron diffraction in combination with ab initio DFT calculations. The rhombohedral polymorph crystallizes in the space group R3, in contradiction to the previously reported space group R3m. The crystal structure consists of edge-sharing dimers of NbO 6 octahedra forming layers with 6-and 3-fold rings of octahedra. The lead ions are placed in channels formed by these rings. The layers are connected by corner-sharing octahedra. -(OLSEN, G. H.; SOERBY, M. H.; HAUBACK, B. C.; SELBACH, S. M.; GRANDE*, T.; Inorg. Anionic Chain. -The title compounds are characterized by neutron and X-ray diffraction, and IR spectroscopy. For rubidium-rich samples up to (K0.5Rb0.5)n[GaH2]n, RbGaH2 and (K0.5Rb0.5)n[GaH2]n coexist. The two phases exhibit different alignments of the [GaH2 chains. Potassium-rich samples beyond (K 0.5 Rb 0.5 ) n [GaH 2 ] n are single-phased and crystallize in the orthorhombic space group Cmcm. The [GaH2 chains remain almost identical. The existence of stable Kn[GaH2]n and Rbn[GaH2]n would help to dehydrogenate KGaH4 and RbGaH4 upon heating. -(FAHLQUIST, H.; NOREUS*, D.; SOERBY, M. H.; Inorg. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
