An attempt has been made to compile the knowledge from the available literature. The growth regulators reviewed include auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins, ethephon, CCC, Alar, ABA, morphactin and TIBA. None of them is used routinely . The chlorophenoxy and naphthalene compounds are definitely harmful . All others discussed are worthy of further study .

Trichomes in persimmon and mango leaves are described. In all examined persimmon cultivars, trichomes were of the capitate type. Anatomical differences were noted between the cultivar “Triumph” (of uncertain origin) and four Japanese cultivars with regard to size, shape, and number of the stalk cells. The trichomes in three mango cultivars were of the peltate type and were anatomically alike. The density of the persimmon trichomes was more than twice that of the mango trichomes. The differences between the persimmon cultivars, as well as a special feature of the mango trichomes, are considered to be of taxonomical value.
Normal, abnormal, and degenerate ovules of avocado (Persea americana Mill.) are described and illustrated. The frequency of occurrence of these ovule types differed among 4 cultivars (‘Fuerte’, ‘Ettinger’, ‘Hass’, ‘Tova’) with a total frequency ranging from 15 to 40%. A higher frequency of apparently degenerative ovules increased the proportion considered defective to 80–98%. No relationship could be discerned between the percentage of normal ovules and the yields of 8 trees differing widely in fruitfulness.
