Saturation of near-infrared absorption in Mg(2)SiO(4):Cr is observed, and the absorption cross section at 1.08 microm is estimated to be sigma(alpha) = (2.3 +/- 0.3) x 10(-18) cm(2). Q switching and passive mode locking of a Nd:YAG laser have been realized with a Mg(2)SiO(4):Cr saturable absorber.
We consider a mechanism by which dyons (electrically charged magnetic monopoles) can produce both a T-and P-odd (i.e. time-reversal invariance and parity violating) mixed polarizability β (defined by E = −βE · B, where E is the energy change when electric (E) and magnetic (B) fields are applied to a system) and a T-and P-odd interaction between two particles:ψ 1 γ 5 ψ 1ψ2 ψ 2 , where the ψ i are electron and quark spinors. The latter can create atomic and neutron electric dipole moments. From experimental bounds on these we find limits on the properties of dyons. The contribution of dyons to CP violation in K-meson decays is also estimated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
