During the rainy season, rivers in the Tarakan region experience overflows due to high rainfall, household waste and, river silting (sedimentation). On the Kampung Bugis and the Mahakam River in Kampung Empat, they overflow when it rains with intensity and a long duration of time. This study aims to determine the potential for overflow and the factors causing the overflow of the Kampung Bugis and the Mahakam Rivers in Kampung Empat by using the HEC-RAS software. Based on the analysis results of calculations and simulations with HEC-RAS software in the Kampung Bugis river at 10 stations (STA), the maximum discharge was obtained with values (QFlow + Q100th) = 51.44 m3/s and (QCanal) = 41.58 m3/s. From these results, the comparison is that (QFlow + Q100th) > (QCanal) which means that the Canal cannot accommodate the flowing discharge. The overflow factor is due to the sedimentation along the river Canal and the high rainfall.
