Beryllium-7 has been produced in the NRX reactor by the following reactions: B10(p,α)Be7, Li7(p,n)Be7, and Li6(d,n)Be7. The Be7 has been identified by its half-life and gamma-ray energy. The (p,α), (p,n), and (d,n) reactions were initiated by protons and deuterons produced by neutron – hydrogen atom collisions and by neutron – deuterium atom collisions from the irradiation of boric acid, lithium hydroxide, and lithium deuteroxide respectively. The same three reactions were also initiated by protons and deuterons produced by (n,p) and (n,d) reactions on boron, lithium, and other target elements chemically combined with lithium.
18 F has been produced irradiating LiN0 3 in the Ispra 1 reactor, by 16 0(i, n) u F reaction using tritons from e Li(n, i) 4 He reaction. A simple method is proposed for the purification of 18 F, based on the adsorption on anionic alumina in OHform and elution with NaF solution. Also the adsorption of 18 F on magnesium oxide has been experimented. Several other salts containing lithium and oxygen have been irradiated. Some remarks are reported on the dependence of the 18 F production yields from the chemical composition of the irradiated compounds.Zusammenfassung Durch die Reaktion 1β Ο (t, n) 18 F mit Tritonen aus "Li (η., <) 4 He wurde im Ispra-1-Reaktor 18 F aus LiN0 3 erhalten. Es wird ein einfaches Verfahren zur Reinigung des 18 F vorgeschlagen, das auf dessen Adsorption an basischem A1 2 0 3 in OH~-Form und Auswaschen mit NaF-Lösung basiert. Die Adsorption des 18 F an MgO wurde ebenfalls ausprobiert. Mehrere andere Lithium und Sauerstoff enthaltende Salze wurden bestrahlt. Es wird einiges über die Abhängigkeit der 18 F-Ausbeute von der chemischen Zusammenfassung der bestrahlten Verbindung mitgeteilt.
RésuméDu fluor 18 a été produit pendant l'irradiation de LiN0 3 dans le réacteur Ispra 1, par la réaction 1β 0(ί, n) 18 F avec des tritons dérivants de 6 Li (n, () 4 He. Une méthode simple pour la purification du 18 F est proposée, basée sur l'adsorption sur A1 2 0 3 anionique (sous forme OH~) et l'élution par une solution de NaF. En outre, l'adsorption du 18 F sur MgO a été essayée. Plusieurs autres sels, contenant Li et 0, ont été irradiés.
