Une enquête sérologique par immunofluorescence indirecte pour les babésioses bovines (Babesia bovis et B. bigemina) et par agglutination pour l'anaplasmose bovine, indique que ces hémoparasitoses sont largement répandues en Martinique. Les séroprévalences élevées (62 % pour B. bovis, 52 % pour B. bigemina et 43 % pour Anaplasma marginale) font penser à une situation épizootiologique instable pour ces trois hémoparasitoses mais le faible nombre de frottis observés ne permet pas d'apprécier leur incidence clinique. Les deux Card tests américain et cubain donnent des résultats pratiquement identiques dans la détection d'anticorps anti-A. marginale. Theileria mutans est signalé pour la première fois en Martinique. Quant à la trypanosomose à Trypanosoma vivax, elle a disparu de l'île cliniquement et sérologiquement.
Une méthode de diagnostic sérologique de Babesia bigemina par l'immunoperoxydase a été mise au point ; des lames d'antigène ont été réalisées à partir de sang parasité par B. bigemina et conserv ées à - 20 C. Cent soixante-cinq sérums ont été testés en comparant le test à l'iiumunoperoxydase à l'immunofluorescence indirecte. Une coïncidence de 95 % a été observée entre les deux tests, ainsi qu'une spécificité relative de 95,5 % où et une sensibilité relative de 94,8 % pour le test à l'immunoperoxydase, avec une valeur prédictive positive de 96,8 %. Les résultats démontrent l'efficacité de ce test pour détecter les anticorps contre B. bigemina.
