Microwave dielectric measurements were made on snow samples with wetnessis between 0 and 0.12 by volume and densities between 0.17 and 0.37 g/cm . A free-space transmission method was used at eight frequencies between 4 GHz and 18 GHz. The data at each frequency have been fitted with a model that assumes a linear dependence on snow wetness. The average correlation coefficients were 0.92 for the dielectric constant e', and 0.95 for the dielectric loss factor s'" and the attenuation coefficient a. All measured quantities show a strong wetness-dependence, and c' and a also depend strongly on frequency whereas U' exhibits a relatively weak frequency-dependence.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
