42 species of 18 families of mites associated with citrus trees (orange, mandarine, lemon, kumquat, grape‐fruit) were recorded in lower Egypt. 9 species were phytophagous, 25 species were presumably predacious and 8 species were presumably scavengers and fungus feeders. Zusammenfassung Übersicht über die in Unterägypten an Zitrusbäumen lebenden Milben 42 Milbenarten aus 18 Familien wurden an Zitrusbäumen (Orange, Mandarine, Zitrone, Kumquat und Grapefruit) gefunden: 9 phytophage, 26 mutmaßlich räuberische und 8 mutmaßlich Abfall und Pilze fressende Arten. Es werden Angaben über ihre Wirte, Lebensweise und Häufigkeit gemacht.

Survey on the soil predaceous prostigmatid mites indicated the occurrence of 12 species. These were six from Cunaxidae and three from each Cheyletidae and Bdellidae. Population dynamics for a whole year showed that Gunaxids and Cheyletids increased in numbers during spring and summer while decreased in cold months of winter. On the contrary Bdellid population flourished in autumn and winter and decreased in summer. Zusammenfassung Zur Populationsdynamik einiger räuberischer Bodenmilben der Gruppe Prostigmata in Ägypten Bei Bodenuntersuchungen auf dem Gelände der Farmen der Landw. Fakultät in Giza wurden in der Streu unter Sträuchern und Bäumen 12 prostigmate Milbenarten: 6 aus der Familie Cunaxidae und je 3 aus den Familien Cheyletidae und Bdellidae gefunden. Ein Jahr lang durchgeführte Populationsstudien zeigten, daß die Individuenzahl der Cunaxidae und Cheyletidae während des Frühjahrs und Sommers anstieg und in der kälteren Jahreszeit absank. Im Gegenteil hierzu zeigten die Bdellidae im Herbst und Winter die größte Populationsdichte und im Sommer die geringste.

The Gulf of Suez region represents the most promising area in Egypt for geothermal exploration which is characterized by superficial thermal manifestations represented by a cluster of hot springs with varying temperatures from 35 to 72°C. The main purpose of the present study was to shed the light on the integration between gravity work and geothermal data in detecting the main subsurface structures in addition to expecting the geothermal sources in the area under consideration. Correction was applied on the bottom hole temperature data to obtain the true formation equilibrium temperatures that can provide useful information about the subsurface thermal regime. Based on these logging data, temperature gradient and heat flow values were computed at each well, and it is found that the mean geothermal gradient of the study area is 32°C/km; nevertheless, some local geothermal potential fields were located with more than 40°C/km. Also, heat flow values are ranging from 45 to 115 mW/m 2. The Bouguer anomaly map of the study area was used for delineating the subsurface structures and tectonic trends that have resulted in a potential heat source. The gravity inversion revealed a good correlation between areas of high temperature gradients, high heat flow and positive gravity anomalies. The high temperature gradient and heat flow values suggested being associated with a noticeable hydrothermal source of heat anomaly located at relatively shallow depths which is expected to be due to the uplift of the basement in the area.

Phytoseius plumifer could develop and reproduce when fed on the different stages of the red spider mite T. cinnabarinus. The female immature stages lasted for an average of 4.8, 3.8 and 4.5 days respectively when fed on eggs, immatures and adults of the prey at an average temperature of 29.5 ± l°C. The average number of deposited eggs per female was significantly greater when it fed on immatures and adults (about 45 eggs) than when it fed on prey eggs (about 29 eggs). During the whole life‐span the predator female fed on an average of 969 eggs or 438 immatures or 346 adults, of these more than 93% were consumed during the adult stage. Males lived for shorter time and consumed fewer prey than females. The predator could develop and reproduce successfully on date‐palm pollen but at a slower rate. On this diet the immature stages lasted 10.5 days and female laid an average of 16.6 eggs. On hollyhock and cotton pollen, or sweet potato leaves, larvae failed to develop to adults. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG DIE LEBENSWEISE DER RAUBMILBE PHYTOSEIUS PLUMIFER UND DIE WIRKUNG DER ERNÄHRUNG AUF IHRE BIOLOGIE (ACARINA: PHYTOSEIIDAE) Phytoseius plumifer konnte sich entwickeln und fortpflanzen, wenn er mit verschiedenen Stadien der Roten Spinnmilbe, Tetranychus cinnabarinus, gefüttert wurde. Die Entwicklungs‐Stadien des Weibchens dauerten bei einer Mitteltemperatur von 29,5 ± 1° je nach Fütterung mit Eiern, Jungtieren oder Adulten der Beute durchschnittlich 4,8, 3,8 oder 4,5 Tage. Die durchschnittliche Anzahl von einem Weibchen abgelegter Eier war signifikant größer, wenn sie mit Larven und Erwachsenen gefüttert wurden, (etwa 45 Eier), als wenn sie mit Eiern der Beutetiere ernährt wurden (etwa 29 Eier). Während der Gesamtlebensdauer verzehrte ein Raubmilben‐Weibchen im Durchschnitt 969 Eier oder 438 unreife oder 346 erwachsene Beutetiere, von denen mehr als 93% während des Imaginalstadiums verbraucht wurden. Männchen lebten kürzere Zeit und vertilgten weniger Beute als die Weibchen. Der Räuber konnte sich an Dattelpalmen‐Pollen entwickeln und erfolgreich fortpflanzen, jedoch mit einer geringeren Rate. Bei dieser Ernährung dauerte die Entwicklung bis zur Imago 10,5 Tage und ein Weibchen legte im Durchschnitt 16,6 Eier. Mit Stechpalmen‐ und Baumwoll‐Pollen oder an Süßkartoffel‐Blättern entwickelten sich die Larven nicht bis zur Imago.

Zusammenfassung Es wurden die Morphologie, Biologie und Schadensweise der beiden an Dattelpalmen schädlichen Milben Raoiella indica Hirst und Phyllotetranychus aegyptiacus Saved in ägypten untersucht. Die erstgenannte Art hat zwei Nymphenstadien, die letztere nur eins. Phyllotetranychus hat eine längere Gesamtentwicklung als Raoiella, was z. T. in der längeren Inkubationszeit begründet ist. Freilandbeobachtungen ergaben, daß die zwei Arten ihre Entwicklung und Reproduktion zwar im Winter fortsetzen, jedoch in verlangsamter Form.

The biology of Typhlodrompis swirskii (Athias-Henriot) fed on different associated phytophagous mites, insects and pollens was studied at 25 o C. These were Eutetranychus orientalis (Klien) (immatures and adults), Cenopalpus pulcher (C. & F.) females, Panonychus ulmi (Koch) (females), Tetranychus urticae Koch (immatures and eggs), Tydeus californicus (Banks) moving stages; whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (eggs and 1 st & 2 nd instar nymphs), the scale insects Chrysomphalus ficus Rilly and Coccus hesperidium (Linnaeus) (eggs and nymphs), the aphid Aphis duranta Theo (adults), date palm pollens Phoenix dactylifera L. and castor bean pollens Ricinus communis L. Amount of consumption, as well as the predation capacity were estimated. Mites and date palm pollens were more suitable than insects and castor bean pollens; also immatures of E. orientalis gave the shortest female life cycle (10.8 days) and the highest female fecundity (38.0 eggs/♀). Feeding T. swirskii on E. orientalis immatures at 15, 20, 25, 28, 30, 32 and 35 o C, the developmental durations averaged 18.5, 14.3, 10.8, 9.0, 7.7, 6.8
