Ocean has been studied. T he results of atomic absorption spectroscopy have revealed that E. S. DWARAKADASA the corrosion product present on mild steel coupons is FeOOH. T he results of ex periments M. RAVINDRAN in shallow water have shown that micro-and macrobiologicalgrowths play a signi cant role in the corrosion of ferrous materials. H owever, in deeper waters, the absence of macrofouling was evident, and corrosion was not related to any biological product but mainly to the electrochemicalreaction of these alloys with sea water. T he results of morphological studies by SEM on the surfaces of ex posed specimens are also presented.
