A odontologia hospitalar é conceituada como a prática de atividades que promovem a melhora da saúde e qualidade de vida de pacientes hospitalizados. Estudos atuais relacionam a saúde bucal com a manifestação prejuízos à saúde do indivíduo de forma geral, exacerbando em alguns casos a gravidade do quadro clínico, podendo disseminar-se para outros órgãos, aumentando assim o tempo de internação. O objetivo do estudo foi realizar uma revisão narrativa de literatura apresentando a importância da atuação do cirurgião dentista na equipe multidisciplinar em ambiente hospitalar e a relação os cuidados do cirurgião dentista na manutenção de saúde geral e qualidade de vida de pacientes internados. Metodologia: Revisão narrativa por meio de coleta de dados nas bases do PubMEd, BVS, SciELO e Google acadêmico. Conclusão, é de extrema importância a presença do Cirurgião dentista no ambiente hospitalar dentro de UTI´s, e CTI´s, para promoção e prevenção de saúde bucal, este cenário torna-se mais relevante quando tratamos de pacientes internados.
