O traumatismo dentário é um problema de saúde pública que interfere na qualidade de vida dos pacientes, afetando tanto a função como a estética. O atendimento de urgência deve se iniciar no local com rapidez e eficiência para se obter um prognóstico favorável. Dessa forma, o conhecimento prévio é primordial, porém há a escassez de informação por parte da população envolvida direta ou indiretamente no atendimento de urgência dos traumatismos dentários. Assim, o objetivo desde trabalho foi realizar uma revisão de literatura científica convencional em relação ao nível de conhecimento dos acadêmicos do curso de graduação em Odontologia sobre avulsão dentária. Como fonte para a pesquisa foram utilizadas as bases de dados Pubmed e Google Acadêmico entre janeiro e fevereiro de 2021. Os seguintes descritores foram aplicados: trauma dental (dental trauma), conhecimento (knowledge), estudantes (students), estudantes de Odontologia (dental students), avulsão dental (tooth avulsion, knocked-out tooth), questionário (questionnaire), conhecimento do aluno (student knowledge). Os resultados demonstraram que o conhecimento dos alunos foi de baixo a moderado. Além disso, os acadêmicos do último ano apresentaram conhecimento superior quando comparado aos do primeiro ano. Conclui-se que os acadêmicos não apresentam conhecimento necessário para atender casos de avulsão, mostrando a necessidade de mudanças nas estruturas curriculares das faculdades de Odontologia.
