Introdução: O contexto da pandemia da COVID-19 afetou a saúde mental das pessoas abruptamente. Muitos serviços ao redor do mundo foram adaptados para realizar os atendimentos dos pacientes que já eram atendidos e os novos que estavam apresentando sinais de sofrimento mental. Detalhamento da experiência: Trata-se de um relato de experiência através de um projeto de extensão interligado à uma universidade privada do sul do Brasil. Essa ação permite aproximar os discentes da prática e também compor a rede de saúde do município. São realizados acolhimento e atendimentos em saúde mental, através de embasamento na Teoria das Relações Interpessoais de Hildegard Peplau em um consultório na universidade. Os encontros possuem em média 01 hora de duração e se o acadêmico identificar que é um caso grave de saúde mental, o mesmo é encaminhado para a rede de saúde do município. Discussão: A pandemia do COVID-19 teve um impacto severo na saúde mental e no bem-estar das pessoas em todo o mundo. Estudos apresentam a telepsiquiatria como ferramenta do cuidado. No Brasil, há publicado um Guia para manejo pós-COVID-19 que na saúde mental afirma considerar atendimento específico para casos em que embora o sofrimento não seja intenso, perceba-se benefício com a escuta e intervenção. Considerações finais: Assim, diante do impacto mundial, este estudo impulsiona a importância de outras análises comportamentais e psíquicas dos usuários dos serviços de saúde e o aprofundamento em outras estratégias que possam contribuir para o fortalecimento da saúde mental e enfrentamento de tensões sociais.
