This article examines the occurrence of equity market timing through its effects on the capital structure of Brazilian companies that went public between 1997 and 2007. The results show the existence of equity market timing in the Brazilian stock market but its effects are not persistent in the long-run on the capital structure.
Technological advances and the need for monitoring of business processes have contributed to making investments in information technology (IT). This article aims to analyze the evolution of studies on investments in IT in Brazil from 2003 to 2013.Through a bibliometric survey made on Brazilian academic proceedings and the most important management and IT journals, we analyzed 72 articles with IT investments as its central theme. In these articles we identified the proposed objectives, the research methods adopted and the main results obtained. We categorized the 72 articles into eight subjects related to IT investments. The highest number of studies concerns the influencing factors of IT investments, and these factors are related mainly to people involved in the decision-making process and users of IT. The second most researched subject deals with the relationship between IT investment and organizational performance, with articles presenting the benefits generated by IT investments. As main contributions, our study mapped the most important subjects researched concerning IT investments and detected important gaps, as IT value.
