First of all I am very thankful to my family, specially my mother, father, sister and brother, for all of them being so supportive from the start of this journey. Thanks also to my companion Lucy, who helped me several times, and encouraged me in difficult moments and those in which I couldn't be very present. I am also thankful to my advisor Prof. Hugo Yoshizaki, for guiding this research and for all of his dedication, trust and encouragement throughout the development of this research. I also acknowledge everyone at CISLog, for the relevant discussions and friendships along these years together. Thanks to all my professors and lecturers from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo, who shared valuable knowledge that led to the accomplishment of this research, in special to Prof. Claudio B. Cunha, for all of the opportunities, rich discussions and relevant insights. I also acknowledge the use of computational facilities of LCCA-Laboratory of Advanced Scientific Computation of the University of São Paulo (LCCA-USP) and the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) financial support [grant number 830616/1999-3].
Micro e pequena empresa. The literature has presented many supplier segmentation models and multicriteria assessments; however, these models do not address the characteristics of micro and small enterprises (MSE), which have scarce resources and seek management tools with a large marginal contribution. The objective of this study is to propose a supplier segmentation model and assessment to address the requirements of MSE's and to illustrate its practicability through a case study in a small furniture manufacturer. The results showed that the model's direct benefits do not represent large marginal contributions, but the indirect benefits and the structuration process developed contribute to important consensual decisions and actions for the growth of these organizations.
