O cisto odontogênico calcificante é uma lesão incomum com comportamento clínico e histopatológico variável. Em alguns casos parecem ser cistos não-neoplásicos, enquanto em outros casos não apresentam características císticas, sendo considerados como neoplasias. A forma cística é a mais freqüente e a característica histológica mais comum é a presença de um número variável de células fantasmas no componente epitelial. A região de caninos e incisivos é a de maior incidência da lesão e a média de idade dos pacientes é de 33 anos. Geralmente se apresenta como uma lesão unilocular radiolúcida bem definida, podendo apresentar estruturas radiopacas no interior. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar o caso clínico da paciente L.G., 39 anos, gênero feminino, leucoderma, que foi encaminhada ao serviço de Cirurgia Buco-Maxilo-Facial da UFPR. A lesão apresentava-se assintomática e foi um achado durante o exame radiográfico, no qual observou-se a presença de uma lesão radiolúcida, estendendo-se da região do dente 12 ao 23. Os dentes 12, 11 e 21 apresentavam tratamento endodôntico e o dente 22 não respondeu ao teste de vitalidade. A hipótese diagnóstica foi de cisto periapical e o tratamento proposto foi a enucleação da lesão. O diagnóstico histopatológico foi de cisto odontogênico epitelial calcificante.
REBELLATORecentemente, parafusos de titânio têm sido utilizados para ancoragem absoluta durante os tratamentos ortodônticos. O objetivo deste trabalho é fazer uma revisão de literatura sobre os fatores que influenciam a estabilidade de mini-implantes e mini-placas de titânio quando utilizados para ancoragem ortodôntica. Diversos tipos de escoras por implantes para ancoragem absoluta têm atraído a atenção dos ortodontistas e que os parafusos de titânio têm as seguintes vantagens: limitação anatômica mínima para a instalação, custo menos elevado, procedimento de simples execução e mínimo desconforto para o paciente.A instalação de parafusos de ancoragem na região posterior dos maxilares apresenta exigências que restringem a posição, inclinação, e profundidade de ancoragem do parafuso.Em contraste, a instalação de mini-placas envolve um procedimento mais complicado e de um custo mais elevado, mas é associado com poucas limitações na posição 3. Concluindo, a estabilidade dos mini-implantes de titânio parece estar relacionada com a ausência de peri-implantite e com o diâmetro do parafuso. O uso de um parafuso de diâmetro maior ou mini-placas está indicado em pacientes portadores de uma grande angulação no plano mandibular. A carga imediata é possível se a força aplicada não superar 2N.
Hiperdontia ou dentes extranumerários são alterações de desenvolvimento frequentes em muitas síndromes genéticas, porém raras em casos não sindrômicos. Este trabalho tem como objetivo discutir abordagens terapêuticas por meio do relato de um caso clínico de Hiperdontia, na ausência de patologia sistêmica associada, de um adolescente do gênero masculino, com 14 anos de idade, paciente do curso de Pós-graduação em Ortodontia da Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR). A presença de dentes extranumerários pode dificultar ou até mesmo impedir a erupção dos dentes adjacentes, prejudicando o desenvolvimento normal da oclusão dentária. Portanto, cabe ao Ortodontista e ao Cirurgião Buco-maxilo-facial, o manejo desta anormalidade de forma a minimizar seus efeitos deletérios sobre a função mastigatória e a estética do sorriso.
