As doenças da tireoide são frequentes na prática médica e podem ser divididas em duas grandes síndromes clínicas: síndrome de hipotireoidismo e síndrome tireotóxica. O hipotireoidismo é definido por sinais e sintomas decorrentes da diminuição da atividade dos hormônios tireoidianos nos órgãos-alvo, podendo cursar com sonolência, déficit de memória, pele seca com anexos frágeis e quebradiços, constipação intestinal, pressão arterial convergente, mixedema, dentre outros. Já a tireotoxicose, que pode ocorrer com ou sem hipertireoidismo, é decorrente do aumento da atividade dos hormônios tireoidianos nos tecidos periféricos, causando irritabilidade, dificuldade de concentração, insônia, sudorese, tremor de extremidades, aumento do ritmo intestinal, taquicardia, pressão arterial divergente, dentre outros
As síndromes vasculares são definidas como o conjunto de sinais e sintomas decorrentes do déficit de funcionalidade tanto do sistema venoso quanto do sistema arterial. Neste capítulo serão abordadas duas grandes síndromes vasculares: a insuficiência arterial periférica de membros inferiores e a trombose venosa profunda. A síndrome de insuficiência arterial periférica de membros inferiores se deve à baixa perfusão sanguínea tecidual e pode se manifestar como claudicação intermitente e alterações tróficas da pele e anexos, em casos crônicos, e dor aguda e súbita com sinais de hipoperfusão, em casos agudos.
Algumas síndromes parenquimatosas muito importantes são: consolidação, congestão passiva, tromboembolismo pulmonar e síndrome de doença pulmonar intersticial difusa. A congestão ocorre quando os alvéolos pulmonares são preenchidos. A congestão passiva ocorre quando há acúmulo de líquido no interstício. O tromboembolismo pulmonar ocorre quando um coágulo obstrui algum ponto da circulação arterial pulmonar. A síndrome de doença pulmonar intersticial difusa ocorre quando há um comprometimento intersticial pulmonar. É necessário saber a fisiopatologia, os sinais e os sintomas dessas doenças para poder diferenciá-las.
Doenças negligenciadas, como a hanseníase, são causadas por agentes infecciosos ou parasitas. São endêmicas em populações de baixa renda. Outra característica é que os investimentos em pesquisas, produção de medicamentos e controle são relativamente reduzidos.A hanseníase é uma doença crônica, cujo agente é a bactéria Mycobacterium leprae, pode acometer todas as pessoas. A alteração ou perda da sensibilidade térmica, dolorosa e tátil em partes do corpo são características desta doença. A prevenção precoce é muito importante para reduzir o quadro clínico. Desta forma, o presente livro retrata informações sobre a experiência social, desempenho funcional e prevenção de incapacidades de pessoas que possuem a doença, assim como a importância da interprofissionalidade para melhor qualidade de atenção.Em nossos livros selecionamos um dos capítulos para premiação como forma de incentivo para os autores, e entre os excelentes trabalhos selecionados para compor este livro, o premiado foi o capítulo 5, intitulado "Interprofissionalidade e cuidado às pessoas com hanseníase: o que aprendemos em um projeto de extensão".
