Objetivo: Reportar el uso crema dental en niños peruanos menores de 12 años, durante el periodo del 2016 - 2018. Materiales y métodos: El estudio fue descriptivo, longitudinal y retrospectivo, utilizándose los registros de la base de datos ENDES, Perú, durante 2016-2018. La muestra fue multietápico, probabilística y estratificada, formada por 118 716 registros de niños menores de 12 años de edad. Las variables fueron: uso de crema dental, concentración de flúor, departamento, ámbito geográfico y región natural. Se realizó un análisis descriptivo de las frecuencias absolutas y relativas. Resultados: De los participantes, se cepillaban los dientes, el 88%; se cepillan los dientes 2 veces al día, el 40%; utilizaban crema dental, el 98%; usaban crema dental con una concentración de flúor de 1000ppm o más, el 44,6% (n=15 376), 43,2% (n=14 545) y 44% (n=16 227), para los años 2016, 2017 y 2018, respectivamente. En los departamentos de Piura, Loreto, San Martin y Ucayali usan crema dental ≥1000ppm de flúor, en mayor porcentaje, en un 55% a 74,9%. Las cremas dentales con ≥1000ppm de flúor fueron más utilizadas en la región de la selva y zonas urbanas. Conclusión: Se encontró que la población se cepilla los dientes, con una frecuencia de 2 veces al día y utilizan crema dental; sin embargo, menos de la mitad de peruanos menores de 12 años de edad, utiliza crema dental fluorada con 1000 ppm o más. Estos resultados se podrían relacionarse con las políticas preventivas actuales contra la caries dental.
Dirección de crecimiento, posición y tamaño de los maxilares en mordidas abiertas esqueléticas de patrón esquelético clase II y III Growth direction, position and size of the jaws in open bite of skeletal class II and III malocclusion ResumenEl objetivo del estudio fue determinar la dirección de crecimiento, posición y tamaño de la maxila y mandíbula de mordidas abiertas, de patrón esquelético clase II y III. Metodología. Este estudio es observacional, descriptivo y transversal. La población estuvo conformada por 100 radiografías cefalométri-cas laterales de pacientes con diagnóstico clínico de mordida abierta, el muestreo fue no probabilístico, por conveniencia. Se utilizó el programa Nemoceph para realizar el análisis de Ricketts y conocer los valores de las variables de estudio. La muestra consistió de 36 radiografías de mordidas abiertas esquelé-ticas. Los datos obtenidos fueron analizados con el test chi cuadrado, a un nivel de confianza del 95%, equivalente a 1.96 y un margen de error del 5% y la prueba estadística paramétrica. Resultados. De las 36 mordidas abiertas, el 72.2% era clase II y el 27.8% clase III de patrón esquelético, con las siguientes características: los dos grupos en su mayoría mostraron dirección de crecimiento normodivergente en la maxila, y en la mandíbula todos presentaron crecimiento hiperdivergente. Con respecto a la posición, ambos grupos presentaron posición normal de la maxila pero y se diferenciaron en el tamaño encontrándose una maxila de tamaño normal para el grupo de clase II y un tamaño aumentado en el grupo de clase III. Con respecto a la mandíbula, podemos decir que en ambos grupos presentaron tamaño disminuido y se diferenciaron en la posición encontrándose una posición retruída para el grupo de clase II y una posición normal en el grupo de clase III. Conclusion. No hay diferencia significativa en la dirección de crecimiento, posición y tamaño de la maxila y mandíbula en los patrones esqueléticos de clase II y III (p<0.05). Methodology: This is an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional investigation. The population consisted of 100 lateral cephalometric radiographs of patients with clinical diagnosis of skeletal open bite. The sample was not probabilistic for convenience. The Nemoceph program was used for Ricketts analysis to get the values of variables. The sample consisted of 36 radiographs of skeletal open bites. The data obtained were analyzed with the chi-square test at a confidence level of 95% equivalent to 1.96 and a margin of error of 5%. Los sistemas clareamiento dental y actualmente el uso de pastas dentales con sustancias clareadoras llevó a plantear el efecto de éstas sobre la superficie del esmalte. La evidencia científica indica que puede ocasionar respuesta en la estructura química con pérdida de sales de calcio. Se midieron las concentraciones de calcio en partes por millón (ppm) en 27 coronas de dientes premolares. La erosión del esmalte fue cuantificada a través de la liberación de sales de Calcio de los especimenes sumergidos en dos tipos de pastas blanqueadoras: Crest Whitening Y Colgate Maxwhite comparadas con un gold estándar, el gel de peróxido de carbamida al 20 %; permaneciendo en contacto directo en una soiución de ellas, las concentraciones de calcio fueron medidas a las 12 h, 24 h y 7 d respectivamente. El método empleado para determinar la concentración de calcio fue la espectrofotometría de absorción atómica. Con el análisis de medias los resultados indican que la pasta Crest Whitening (contiene peróxido) presenta mayor concentración. La de menor concentración de calcio fue la pasta dental Colgate Maxwhite, el gel presenta mayor concentracion de calcio. Existen diferencias significativas entre las concentraciones halladas en las pastas testadas (Anova p<,05) Se concluye que la pasta dental Colgate Maxwhite libera menos sales de calcio que la pasta Gest Whitening cuyo contenido de peróxido al igual que los geles blanqueadores utilizados en el sistema de clareamiento profesional, deben ser de prescripción profesional.
