El fenómeno social del fútbol no es un tema novedoso en el mundo académico, político o económico. Desde los años 70, este deporte se consolidó como el más visto y practicado, de manera especial en los países occidentales y, en la actualidad, su órbita de influencia es global. Sin embargo, sus implicaciones sociales solo han sido abordadas por el campo académico a partir de la década de los ochenta, en nuestra región, donde investigadores sociales como Archetti y Alabarces, entre otros, han sido los pioneros del estudio social del fútbol en Sudamérica. El presente ensayo abordará uno de los aspectos fundamentales fútbol, las dinámicas simbólicas de las barras bravas, y como estas se han configurado en nuestra región, consolidándose como componente casi indispensable del fútbol.
Las definiciones que se han construido en torno al concepto de desarrollo y el sentido con el que cuenta la comunicación comprenden espacios de reflexión que dan lugar a consistentes debates socioepistémicos, que evidencian una profunda disputa ideológica, caracterizada por la intención de imponer discursos hegemónicos desde los países “ricos” hacia los llamados intencionalmente “pobres”. Este trabajo retoma dos de las principales teorías del desarrollo que, en diversos momentos, se implementaron en Latinoamérica: la modernización y la dependencia, que, en gran medida, han trazado las agendas nacionales en lo político, económico y social. Además, se analiza cómo la comunicación se ha constituido en una ambivalencia, dado que gestiona y cuestiona los conceptos de desarrollo.
