Introducción: La taquicardia supraventricular (TSV) tiene una incidencia de 35 casos por cada 100,000 habitantes y año. Es causa común de atención en los servicios de emergencias. Se asocia a palpitaciones, malestar torácico e inestabilidad hemodinámica. Impacta en el estilo y la calidad de vida de los pacientes. Recientemente se ha descrito la maniobra de Valsalva modificada (MVM) como una alternativa para su tratamiento. Objetivo: Evaluar la eficacia de la MVM para la TSV. Método: Estudio cuasiexperimental de antes y después, de un solo grupo, en el que se aplicó la MVM a pacientes con TSV estables en el área de choque de un hospital de segundo nivel, con lo que se pudo evaluar la eficacia de la reversión de la TSV con esta maniobra y compararla con el tratamiento habitual. Resultados: De un total de 45 pacientes, en 20 se revirtió la TSV con la MVM. El tiempo menor de 24 minutos y la edad media de 33 años tuvieron significancia estadística. Conclusiones: Se demostró una eficacia de la MVM del 44%, relacionándose significativamente con el tiempo y la edad de los pacientes, siendo los mas jóvenes los mas beneficiados y sin efectos adversos.
