El cambio climático y el crecimiento de la población continúan generando demandas, riesgos y vulnerabilidades importantes para los recursos hídricos. Los acuíferos kársticos representan algunas de las formaciones acuíferas más prolíficas con ecosistemas críticos. Una mayor comprensión de su extensión y características es importante como parte de la planificación urbana para garantizar que se establezcan acciones adecuadas en el futuro para su protección. En este trabajo se han creado mapas temáticos con procedimientos semiautomáticos desarrollando índices morfométricos para la identificación de depresiones kársticas dentro de la sucesión carbonatada de la Reserva de la Biosfera El Cielo en el Estado de Tamaulipas, México. Las herramientas de digitalización se utilizaron para: 1) identificar estructuras; 2) fotointerpretar los valles fluviales kársticos y las depresiones kársticas; 3) definir índices morfométricos para el agrupamiento de depresiones; 4) clasificar a través de parámetros morfométricos; 5) identificar “clusters” de dolinas a través de métodos estadísticos, y 6) generar un catálogo completo de las depresiones kársticas y su cartografía. El procedimiento adoptado identificó 1578 rasgos que incluyen: a) 35 valles fluviales kársticos longitudinales; b) 35 valles fluviales kársticos transversales; c) 3 poljes; d) 17 uvalas, y e) 200 dolinas B y 1288 dolinas A.
