El melanoma de piel cabelluda (MPC) es una neoplasia cutánea que se presenta con frecuencia en hombres mayores de 60 años, acompañada de disminución de la densidad capilar, además de la exposición solar acumulada. La topografía se ha considerado un factor independiente de mal pronóstico, en relación con una mayor recurrencia local y menor sobrevida. El MPC posee un patrón de crecimiento vertical y por tanto mayor probabilidad de metástasis regional y a distancia, debido al abundante drenaje linfático y sanguíneo propio de la piel cabelluda. En la variante amelánica se observa una tasa de diagnóstico clínico erróneo cercana al 89%.
