Los bosques montanos albergan especies endémicas valiosas, a pesar que no se conoce a detalle su diversidad. Siendo el objetivo caracterizar la estructura, diversidad y endemismo del relicto Los Lanches del bosque montano Las Palmas distrito de Conchan, Chota, Cajamarca, Perú. Se evaluaron siete parcelas de 1 000 m2 para el estrato arbóreo y en parcelas de 100 m2 y 25 m2 para la regeneración natural. La distribución horizontal refleja una “J” invertida. Weinmannia elliptica (16,63 %) y Hedysomum scabrum (10,27 %) presentaron índices de valor de importancia altos. El 20 % de especies persisten en los tres estratos. De la regeneración natural las especies más importantes son Hedyosmum scabrum (27,79 %) y Palicourea amethystina (14,77 %). Las especies con alto valor de importancia ampliado Hedyosmum scabrum (19,24 %) y Weinmannia elliptica (11,44 %). Las familias más abundantes fueron Lauraceae con cuatro especies, y tres especies la Myrtaceae y Melastomataceae. Se obtuvo un coeficiente de mezcla de 0,033, el índice de Simpson (0,89) indicó alta diversidad, al igual que el índice Shannon-Wiener (2,68). La Brachyotum coronatum y Cyathea caracasana, se encuentran en estado vulnerable. La Axinaea nitida en estado de preocupación menor y la Ocotea jumbillensis en peligro.
El valle del río Marañón se caracteriza por albergar una alta riqueza de especies endémicas de flora leñosa. Sin embargo, la información que documenta la distribución de estas especies dentro del valle, es escasa. Se reporta nuevos registros de la especie endémica Cedrela kuelapensis T.D. Penn. & Daza y sus amenazas en cinco localidades ubicadas en el valle del río Marañón en el norte del Perú, en alturas que oscilan entre 1558 y 2445 m. Los registros fueron realizados en áreas agrícolas, parches de bosques y bosques primarios, dentro de los ecosistemas de matorral andino y bosque estacionalmente seco interandino. La especie es utilizada para ebanistería y en menor escala para combustible, demostrando que tiene un valor económico importante por la calidad de su madera. Estos registros demuestran que sus poblaciones se encuentran aisladas y en constante amenaza por la ampliación de la frontera agrícola y vías de acceso.
La presente investigación consistió en seleccionar árboles semilleros de Cinchona officinalis L., en la zona de amortiguamiento del Bosque de Protección de Pagaibamba, centros poblados de San Luis y Paraguay, distrito de Querocoto, provincia de Chota departamento de Cajamarca. Para ello, se utilizó el método de valoración individual a través de los criterios de selección para árboles semilleros, estimando sus características fenotípicas y las medidas de variables dasométricas: altura total, medida del DAP, simetría de copa, porcentaje de floración, porcentaje de fructificación, porcentaje de germinación y buen estado fitosanitario; evaluando el potencial reproductivo analizando la calidad física de semilla a través de las normas ISTA (2016). Se identificaron 59 individuos potenciales en un área de 0.98 km2, seleccionando 17 árboles semilleros, los cuales cumplen los criterios de selección: fuste recto, copa simétrica, floración mayor a 80% con respecto a su copa, frutos abundantes, buen estado fitosanitario del individuo y de las semillas. Presentando un potencial reproductivo, de 67 semillas por fruto en promedio,18 frutos en la rama, 502 frutos totales en rama/árbol promedio y una producción de semillas por árbol promedio de 1262. Se obtuvo un promedio de pureza de semilla 82.22%, contenido de humedad 16.56 % y un porcentaje de germinación de 99.06%.
