"La tesis central de este libro -apunta la autora en el prefacio-es que no sólo es posible sino indispensable abrir los estudios estéticos -tradicionalmente restringidos al arte y lo bello-hacia la riqueza y complejidad de la vida social en sus diferentes manifestaciones. Eso es la Prosaica: sencillamente, la estética cotidiana. Esta pervivencia de la estética se expresa de mil maneras, desde nuestra forma de vivir, en el lenguaje y el porte, el modo de ataviarse y comer, de rendir culto a deidades o a personalidades, de legitimar el poder, ostentar el triunfo o recordar a los muertos; pero el papel primordial que la estética tiene en nuestra vida cotidiana se ejerce en la construcción y presentación de las identidades sociales" (p. 9).Esto supone prestar atención a muchas supuestas verdades sobre la estética, a pretendidas "obviedades" que, de tan obvias, no deberían, en La estética suele ser vista como un área suntuaria dentro de la vida humana. Desde la caracterización kantiana del juicio estéti-co como "juicio desinteresado", la estética es reducida al ámbito de los objetos bellos pero carentes de otro sentido que no sea el de una contemplación "neutra". El libro de la profesora Mandoki, doctora en Historia del Arte, pone a discusión las diferentes concepciones filosóficas que han prevalecido sobre la estética.

Departamento de Filosofía UCA, San SalvadorEn trabajos como Debate en torno a la ética del discurso de Apel y La ética de la liberació-na ante la ética del discurso, el filósofo argentino Enrique Dussel sienta una postura crítica frente al planteamiento de la ética del discurso, que plantea la posibilidad de construir una ética mundial a partir de la racionalidad como elemento de carácter universal. Dussel sostiene que la "racionalidad universal" enmascara la racionalidad dominante de Occidente y que habría que plantear los problemas éticos mundiales a la luz de las relaciones de dominación entre Norte y Sur.El profesor Michael Barber, catedrático de la Universidad de Saint Louis (Estados Unidos) sostiene que la ética del discurso no implica una negación de la situación de los grupos oprimidos.
