Esta investigación se realizó en el Centro Materno Infantil de San Marcos y en el hospital Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Cajabamba y tuvo como objetivo determinar si los riesgos de accidentes por residuos punzocortantes en los trabajadores que están relacionados con los procesos de gestión de los residuos sólidos. Se realizó de marzo a mayo del 2016 e involucró el diagnóstico del manejo de los residuos, generación diaria, conocimiento del personal en la gestión de residuos y la caracterización física. La generación de residuos en el Hospital de Cajabamba fue de 45,5 kg/día con la siguiente composición: biocontaminados 54,10%, comunes 42,70% y especiales 3,20%. La incidencia de accidentes fue de 2 trabajadores y en el personal de limpieza, de 1 trabajador. En el Centro Materno Infantil la generación de residuos fue de 14,33 kg/día con la siguiente composición: comunes 63,55%, biocontaminados 34,26% y especiales 2,18%. La incidencia de accidentes en el personal de salud y en el personal de limpieza fue de 1 trabajador. Los riesgos de accidentes por residuos punzocortantes en los trabajadores del Centro Materno Infantil de San Marcos y del Hospital de Cajabamba no están relacionados con los procesos de gestión de residuos sólidos.
