RESUMO: O trabalho aqui apresentado resgata o processo de produção da farinha de mandioca em seus elementos culturais socioeconômicos diante da atual conjuntura de contradições acirradas pela grande produção tecnológica de alimentos e, em contrapartida, a perpetuação da fome em escala mundial. Tendo base no panorama apresentado, tem-se como objetivo principal, analisar, diante da atual conjuntura de desenvolvimento da indústria alimentícia e em contrapartida da persistência da fome, o aspecto cultural do preparo de alimentos como a farinha de mandioca. Para tanto pretende-se abordar questões como: o processo em que o preparo da farinha de mandioca se transforma na tradição cultural das farinhadas e identificar como os aspectos econômicos e sociais estão relacionados a estas tradições culturais de preparo e consumo de alimentos. Para construção do texto foi realizada pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, onde as produções foram analisadas com base na observação do cotidiano comunitário de comunidades rurais do município de Arapiraca, agresta alagoano, entre as quais a Comunidade Remanescente de Quilombo Carrasco. Ressaltando, em meio as contradições e disparidades da indústria alimentícia contemporânea, uma tradição como as “farinhadas, de grande importância para a alimentação e cultura que perdura há gerações, o presente estudo, embora ainda sucinto, tende a impulsionar o processo de politização do ato de se alimentar em seus múltiplos aspectos como resposta às práticas, cada vez mais atuais de violação do direito humano a uma alimentação de qualidade e a soberania e segurança alimentar.
