En Ecuador se promueve el desarrollo ecoturístico, destacándose el proyecto Amuntai Rain Forest Lodge, surgido en San Vicente de Tarquí, parroquia Sangay. Sin embargo se desconocen los problemas ambientales que provocaría. Por lo que el presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo realizar un diagnóstico desde la percepción social sobre esta instalación, y predecir los impactos ambientales de la fase de funcionamiento y proponer un plan de manejo ambiental. La investigación fue cualitativa/descriptiva/exploratoria recolectando datos de la literatura. La percepción social se analizó con una encuesta aplicada a 400 habitantes. La predicción de impactos se realizó con la matriz de Leopold. Los indígenas (>50% de habitantes) se dedican a la caza y pesca para sobrevivencia. Se encontró que no existen sistemas financieros que permitieran desarrollar economías, pero el potencial turístico es elevado, por ello los habitantes coincidieron en desarrollar el turismo sostenible. La etapa de funcionamiento afectaría a la fauna y salud humana. Los residuos sólidos y vertido de efluentes líquidos serían las amenazas más agresivas. El 72% de los impactos fueron negativos, conllevando a un impacto significativo. Se diseñaron 35 medidas y cuatro mecanismos de compensación de biodiversidad. Con su aplicación futura se lograría un crecimiento turístico sustentable.
Los patrones de distribución y abundancia de las especies están fuertemente determinados por factores ambientales e interacciones específicas que condicionan su presencia y abundancia. El objetivo del presente estudio fue caracterizar los componentes abióticos y bióticos, así como su estructura y composición en San Vicente de Tarquí, parroquia Sangay. La investigación fue cualitativa/descriptiva/ exploratoria recolectando datos de la literatura. Se realizó un inventario de aves en 50 puntos de conteo durante octubre/2016-febrero/2017. La parroquia se caracteriza por un clima húmedo-tropical, en la cuenca del río Pastaza. Los usos de suelo predominantes fueron bosques, albergando una alta biodiversidad, zona agropecuaria y pastos. Se identificaron 31 especies de árboles maderables, 14 especies de frutales y nueve especies de plantas medicinales, existen más de 500 especies de vertebrados en la zona, y 100 especies de mamíferos no voladores en los bosques y alrededores. Los resultados de este estudio pueden servir como referencia para futuros trabajos a realizarse en otras regiones, ya que ha contribuido al conocimiento de la flora y fauna en general y en particular la estructura y composición respectivamente.
