O presente artigo tem como finalidade apresentar as principais modalidades de interação que ocorrem na prática da pesquisa científica -multidisciplinaridade, interdisciplinaridade e transdisciplinaridade -, tendo, como referência, a literatura produzida no âmbito da ciência da informação. Pesquisadores contemporâneos de outras áreas contribuem para embasar essas teorias, cuja evolução provocou grandes mudanças nos significados desses termos. A pesquisa completa, da qual este artigo é parte, analisou a produção científica da ciência da informação no Brasil, traçando um perfil da pesquisa na área, relativamente à utilização dessas abordagens, concluindo-se que diferentes formas e níveis de interações são encontrados nas pesquisas desenvolvidas na Ciência da Informação, sendo a multidisciplinaridade a mais comum. Conclui-se, ainda, que a situação terminológica atual requer uma atualização desses conceitos, principalmente no âmbito da Ciência da Informação, para uma maior conscientização das implicações de ser uma ciência contemporânea, que se reconhece interdisciplinar.
A produção do conhecimento científico, em todas as áreas, tem sido hoje realizada em grande medida por meio de experiências que privilegiam o convívio de diferentes saberes. Por sua vez, a Ciência da Informação tem como um dos principais traços a sua origem interdisciplinar. O presente trabalho é resultado de pesquisa desenvolvida em nível de doutorado, com o objetivo de analisar quais são as principais formas de interação e em que medida ocorrem na pesquisa da área. O estudo analisou primeiramente uma amostra constituída de 531 artigos científicos publicados em periódicos nacionais da área, tendo sido avaliados, em profundidade, 30% deles, por apresentarem características indicativas da ocorrência de interação com outras áreas do conhecimento. Articulando-se os dados obtidos, constatou-se que diferentes formas e níveis de interação estão presentes nas pesquisas desenvolvidas na Ciência da Informação, sendo a multidisciplinaridade a mais comum. Concluiu-se, ainda, que a interatividade da Ciência da Informação com outras áreas é utilizada mais para dar sustentação à sua disciplinaridade do que para dar vigor a sua característica interdisciplinar.
Resumo: Este artigo apresenta a evolução conceitual dos termos multidisciplinaridade e interdisciplinaridade, bem como ideias básicas que identificam a abordagem transdisciplinar, a partir de um referencial teórico. O texto é parte de pesquisa de doutorado cujo objetivo principal foi analisar a investigação científica desenvolvida no âmbito da Ciência da Informação que tenha participação de mais de uma disciplina. Para isso, utilizaram-se os conceitos ora apresentados. Foram estudados, para tanto, autores contemporâneos de diferentes áreas, para composição do quadro conceitual no qual se baseou a análise. Os resultados da pesquisa completa permitiram traçar um perfil da pesquisa na área, relativamente à utilização das citadas abordagens, e permitiram concluir que diferentes formas e níveis de interações são encontrados em pesquisas na Ciência da Informação, sendo a multidisciplinaridade a mais comum. Conclui-se, ainda, relativamente aos aspectos aqui apresentados, que os conceitos sofreram alterações que provocaram mudanças significativas em seus significados. Essas mudanças levam a uma demanda de reavaliação e atualização, no âmbito da Ciência da Informação, das implicações de ser uma área interdisciplinar, de acordo com o sentido adquirido pelo termo atualmente.
