Diarrhoea is responsible for high rates of infant morbidity and mortality. It is multifactorial, manifested by socioeconomic, hygienic, and maternal factors. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of an educational video on maternal self-efficacy for the prevention of childhood diarrhoea. This was a randomized trial conducted in the state of Ceará, Brazil. Participants were 2 groups (comparison and intervention), composed of mothers of children under 5 years of age. Group membership was allocated by cluster randomization. Outcomes were maternal self-efficacy measured using the Maternal Self-efficacy Scale for Prevention of Early Childhood Diarrhoea; outcome data collectors were blinded to group allocation. Ninety participants were randomized to each group; 83 intervention group and 80 comparison group members were contained in the final analysis. Maternal self-efficacy in preventing childhood diarrhoea increased in both groups, but average scores of the intervention group were higher at all time than those of the comparison group. The educational video had a significant effect on maternal self-efficacy.
Objetivou-se avaliar o conhecimento materno acerca dos cuidados de higiene prestados ao recém-nascido. Estudo descritivo e transversal realizado com 150 puérperas do alojamento conjunto de uma maternidade de Fortaleza- Ceará. Os dados foram coletados, entre janeiro e abril de 2010, por meio de entrevistas e analisados com auxílio de estatística descritiva. Verificou-se maior conhecimento das puérperas acerca da frequência do banho e da temperatura da água, sequência de execução do banho, material para higiene íntima, fixação da fralda, frequência da limpeza do coto umbilical e necessidade de higienização oral. A maioria desconhecia não ser necessário higienizar os mamilos antes da mamada, os produtos para banho, sequência para higienizar a região íntima, cobertura do coto e produtos para higienização deste. Ressalta-se a importância das atividades educativas do enfermeiro no pré-natal e puerpério que auxiliem as mães nos cuidados de higiene do recém-nascido.
Aim: to characterize and evaluate educational videos produced in Brazil that deal with the aspects related to the prevention and/or management of infant diarrhea. Method: this is a documental study which evaluated 25 educational videos in terms of their content and the technical information they contained. Results: it was observed that 60% of the videos were produced in the 1990s and none were adapted for the hearing-impaired.With regard to their pathological preventive steps, 52% mentioned the treatment of drinkable water, and 48% mentioned the washing of hands. Breastfeeding was mentioned in 80% of the videos as a protective measure against the aggravation of the health issue. Maternal self-efficiency to prevent infant diarrhea was present in 28% of the sample. The production of the videos analyzed occurred mainly during the 1990s, due to an intense movement to reduce significantly infant mortality in Brazil at that time. Conclusion: the need to produce new videos related to the topic, including self-efficiency within the context of the prevention of infant diarrhea was confirmed.
Aim: To determine the links between socio-demographic data of mothers living in at-risk micro areas and their self-efficacy in preventing childhood diarrhea. Methods: This is a longitudinal study conducted in Fortaleza, with 90 mothers of children under five years of age. Data collection was performed through the use of the Maternal Self-efficacy Scale for Childhood Diarrhea Prevention (EADPI) and by telephone. Data were analyzed by chi-square tests and likelihood ratio. Results: Statistical significance in self-efficacy levels was found within the following variables: aged between 15 and 29 (ρ <0.001); married (p=0.035); consensual union (ρ=0.039); single (p=0.033); more than five years of schooling (ρ<0.001); per capita income lower than R$169.50 (ρ<0.001); per capita income more than R$169.50 (ρ<0.001); housewife (ρ<0.001); other occupations (ρ<0.001); and number of children (ρ<0.001). Conclusion: When nurses use the EAPDI they can monitor mothers' self-efficacy and use these results in conjunction with the socioeconomic conditions of mothers that influence the occurrence of diarrhea in order to intervene with educational activities.
INTRODUÇÃO: Tem sido cada vez mais comum, em documentos, textos oficiais, discursos e outras fontes, a citação dos termos “profissionais médicos” e “profissionais não médicos”, revelando uma ideia de desconexão explícita e taxativa entre os mesmos. Partindo do princípio de que cada profissional da área da saúde é singular e tem função específica e indispensável para a atenção integral à saúde das pessoas, entendemos que tal denominação é errônea e desrespeitosa com as demais categorias que formam o corpo de profissões da saúde, uma vez que todas têm o objetivo comum de promover o bem estar das pessoas em todos os aspectos da vida humana. OBJETIVO: Objetivamos encetar uma discussão acerca da denominação profissional “não médico”, atribuída às categorias profissionais da área da saúde, buscando ampliar o olhar sobre as nuances que envolvem as relações interprofissionais, de forma a torná-las mais humanas e dignas. CONCLUSÃO: Ressaltamos a importância de entender-se a equipe multiprofissional como espaço de verdadeira interação e aprendizado mútuo, a despeito da mera noção de um agrupamento de profissionais com técnicas distintas para atingir o mesmo objetivo, que é a saúde do ser cuidado.
